Best thing is to weld in a bullet muffler, which has fiberglass packing. No restriction, and it takes the edge away from the resonance and popping.
The only reason the Flowmaster mufflers resonate like that is because they don't have any packing material. They're basically big tin cans. If you don't have anything to deaden the sound of the fuel that may burn in your manifolds/headers, you'll get popping. Your cat would have taken care of that, but she's gone now

Umm, Corsa mufflers don't have packing materials either and don't resonate. It isn't about packing, it's about design. Flowmasters resonate the worst, by a large margin, but so do the 'glaspack' mufflers you recommend.
Bullet mufflers do offer restrictions and the packing can burn out, returning you to the sound you had before you started.
