You guys have got me thinking. I was going to buy a hooker catback exhaust but i think its only 2.5inches. Someone said my exhaust now is 2.75inches so i dont want to add more restriction. Whats the best 3 inch catback for the money. The hooker is only 300 shopped.

The Hooker catback for our cars is 3". It has a 3" intermediate pipe and dual 2.5" tailpipes.

Just a thought, but I would also invest in an exhaust cutout as well. 30 bucks for 10 horsepower is damn good!!! Plus, it will eliminate all fears you have of choking down your exhaust system.

Just my .02

Just to try and clear some things up here, the difference between the 2.5 and 3" system is the exhaust outlets, they both have a 3" intermediate pipe. Also the extra 100 is also for stainless tips for the 3" system. The stock system has I believe 2-3/4 intermediate and 2-1/4" outlets. I had the dual 2-1/2" outlet system (17134 or 43 is the part number) on my 95 ta with a hollowed cat, and it sounded great! It was nice and deep, sounded great at idle and crusing speed. Hard to explain it exactly, but they just plain sound great. Now flowmasters are more known for sound than flow. If you look at the design, which is always pictured in ads, they aren't a straight through flow muffler. They won't flow any where near a muffler that flows right through, like a dynomax ultraflow for example.

Its just a 3" hole in the exhaust basically that is welded into the I-Pipe before the rear axle. Any competent shop could do it with only an hours worth of labor.

There is a plate on the cutout that can be removed for track/race time (basically like open headers...very LOUD) and put back on for just normal driving.

LS1speed.com has them for like 30 bucks or so and they are worth it!!!

Here's something to look at.

http://www.supremeperformance.com/Ne...tex_Camaro.htm

ArvinMeritor, whose aftermarket division offers Flowmaster as well, has started offering these systems for the Camaro. They *just* started offering these. I have a Vortex muffler on my truck, and I flowed it before I installed it. It flows about the same as a straight pipe. It is extremely free flowing and sounds decent as well. It's not as loud as I thought it would be either. Since these are so new, I doubt anyone has tried it. I'd think the F-body muffler will flow very well. I don't know how much these would cost, but they are probably reasonable. I think (not sure) that you can get them at either Midas or Meineke. Again, I'm not sure there. Just a thought.

The whole Flowmaster flow issue is false!

The don't flow worse than stock! They may not flow like a SLP or Ultra Flo but they do flow better than typical crossflows. The tubes inside of stock muflers are 2 1/4

Flow master CAN NOT flow worse than a stock exhaust can. The stock size on the i pipe is 2.25....flow master has a 3 in system...do the math. 2.25 is smaller than 3 correct? Than it is impossible to flow worse. I also agree that everyone spent that 700 bucks on there stainless steel cat backs and wish they had spent 300 on aluminum. Go to any shop and they'll tell you the same thing...all your buying is stainless steel ...and about buying the flowmaster system and then a different muffler, it would be cheaper to just buy some pipe and get it bent and buy some type of muffler. SLP's mufflers are better than crossover...by 1 HP. So it's jjust a matter of how you want the exhaust in the rear to look....single outlet or dual.

The stock I-pipe is 2 3/4 in OD. For many, the stainless is worth it. In many areas of the country, an aluminized mild steel system will rust away quickly because of the weather conditions and short trip duration. I've seen aluminized systems perforate in less than 18 months in rust belt areas. A 409 stainless system would last 7-10 years or more in the same harsh conditions and a 304 stainless (i.e. Borla) will last longer than the rest of the car. For some it's worth it, others not.

dmhperformance.com makes an electric cutout...200 bucks with the cutout and 179 if you already have the cutout. Not really worth it in my opinion...VERY cool, but I have heard about too many failures with those units for them to be worthwile.

There is one other company that makes an electric cutout but the name doesn't come to mind now...anybody want to help a brotha out here??

Check out Magnaflow, they make a great free flowing stainless steel catback.

Likie mentioned, and I agree, a flowmaster will outflow stock, but they are no where near the best. If you qant the best flow a dynomax bullet, ultraflow, or similar, that are 3" and straight through would outflow flowmaster any day. But are single outlet.

I saw magnaflow systems on ebay for 370.00, not sure if thats a good price or not, but they are stainless. I thought about picking one up, but I personally won';rt be modding my car much as its my driver, I have a few others cars for the strip. So I'm just buying a flowmaster 3" in/dual 2-1/2" outlets, the ones made for 93+ f-bodies.
