Flowmaster catback exhaust 2.5"?or3"?

Im in the process of deciding what exhaust i should go with , i want to get the flowmaster american thunder system, there are 2 options either the 2.5" or 3" what i want to know is if there really is a big difference with that .5" ? do you get more horsepower? does it sound better? what are stock dimensions for a 93 z's exhaust? does the flowmaster come with 4" tips? the reason i ask is b/c its like a $100 difference between the two . any info would be great! thanks

you'll get more horse power out of.......

ANY OTHER TYPE OF EXHAUST OTHER THAN FLOWMASTER!!!!!

AS FOR SOUND.... hooker and flowmaster are the best!!!!

flowmaster flows worse than stock IMHO!!!

94TA ......... does it really??? wow thanks for the headsup, do you have any reccomendations? i dont want to spend more that $400. i have heard something about the hooker aerochamber, but i dont know to much about it. I am also going to gut my cat . thanks for replying

You want to go with at least 3", BTW your stock system is 2.75" so 2.5 would be a decrease.

Lunarson,,, what are the dimensions of your slp loudmouth,, is it 3" and how loud is it really? ive never heard it before , is it louder that corsa or borla, is it really loud inside the car ? at idle? full throttle? im also going to gut my cat. thanks for the info

I have a 3" flowmaster catback on mine. It was on the car when I bought it. It does sound good at WOT, but under normal driving it is kinda quiet. But I don't have aftermarket headers either, I heard that will help with the sound.

thats a nice looking T/A you got there@!, thanks for the reply.....

does hooker make a 3" exhaust ? b/c all i have seen were 2 1/2 in kits

Dr.Mudge 02-17-2003 12:48 AM

I'd get a Flowmaster single 3" setup, and get another muffler to replace the Flowstrangler ;)

JJJ93z 02-17-2003 12:53 AM

what type of muffler does the Dr. reccomend?;)

rotoruter2001 02-17-2003 01:27 AM

stock doesnt flow better. anything is an improvement over stock

i think dynomax has a good muffler design but it is very quite.

I'm seeing the negative opinions about Flowmaster sound, but I've never seen any flow numbers that back those up. Does anyone have flow numbers that compare different systems?

DubbyZ28Camaro 02-17-2003 02:51 PM

In my opinion...bolt on a flowmaster for sound, because I think they sound bad ass, and then have a $30 cutout installed which will make up for the poor performance of the flowcrapper. ;)

Haskin Z28 02-17-2003 03:40 PM

the only reason they make these flowmaster poorly flowing claims is either from jumping on the bandwagon or because they bought a different catback with a heavier price tag and would like to bash on people who bought a flowmaster catback because they paid less, have you noticed no one has ever posted factual information that demonstrates the crappiness of flowmaster? ;)

nateh 02-17-2003 03:45 PM

My point exactly. I have never seen any concrete numbers posted here. I have flowed a Flowmaster system (not a Camaro part number) and found it to be quite low restriction, 3.2 in H2O at 700 SCFM, but I don't know how the OEM part compares to a Flowmaster replacement. If I get the opportunity (i.e. parts), I'll flow it and post.
