What year is your car? On my car, the cold air intake is a non-issue because the elbow connects the the MAF sensor which then connects to the intake. It is a good quality piece, there are no gains to be had with it, but it is a very nice appearance upgrade.

You'll be fine, that is what I have and it hasn't caused me any issues. It is a nice looking, solid piece.

I know I'm new, but just to chime in, I do have that exact same piece on my 94 Z, and it fits fine (including airfoil), with all accessories necessary to install it. Only thing I have noticed is a tad bit more noise when you get on it, but as many have said, that's a plus.

Thats partially the purpose though too, it deletes the resonator that the factory intake elbow has. The resonator helps keep down intake noise.

Sounds like you're getting your price from a local dealer - big mistake. A stock intake elbow, either with or without (1LE) the silencer tube should NOT cost you anywhere near $100. Try one of the sources listed on Shoebox's Tech Pages for discount GM parts:

I have that elbow. It works fine but it does heat soak badly. It is fine for most drivng but does not like to cool down at the drags
