Where'd you get your oil pan gasket?

I've accidentally gotten myself into a project I wasn't expecting to undertake. I need to replace my oil pan gasket. I called Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, and Parks Auto Parts. All of them only carry the Fel-pro rubber gasket. I've read too many times (on this site, I might add) that they're pretty good about leaking and that cork was the way to go. Anyway, the parts department at my local dealer is closed for the night. Is that my only hope of getting a cork gasket or do you think I'll be out of luck there too?

why would you want cork? they are crap...

use the rubber, they key is to make sure everything is clean and you don't overtighten it

My Felpro rubber gasket fits very nice and snug to the pan. I have never liked cork.

I have never had a rubber gasket leak unless it was over 100K miles old

key is every surface dry, no oil, and a smear of RTV at the joints(block to rear main housing, and block to timing cover), just a small dab is plenty

Yup, the Felpro works great, and I like the little pins they supply to help hold it in place. Clean the rails and pan, don't overtorque, just a dab ofRTV at the joints.

I've used the Felpro one-piece oil pan gasket on a couple of projects and I've come to believe that it is far superior to the old cork gaskets I used back in the old days

I would be amazed if you found cork crap for this motor.

Only cork gasket I think you could find for the whole car is for the tranny pan.

Reguardless cork is junk, I don't know where you heard otherwise, maybe some old flathead motor site.

Use the felpro. I put black rtv on all the corners and on the front and rear "humps" where the timing chain and rear main are. (top and bottom of the gasket) Hell, you prolly could put rtv all around if you wanted. Won't hurt anything as long as you let it dry sufficiently.
