Re: Engine slap?

If it is that noticeable, I would try to norrow it down to a point in the motor, then yank the intake and take a look at those lifters in that area, look over the cam etc. then button it back up and see.

Oilo additives are a temp fix, but if its a sticky lifty (disk inside lifter not responding etc) then they can "loosen" it.

Re: Engine slap?

Mine started doing that. Only after it warmed up. Kinda subtle sound. It turned out to be the #8 rod knocking. I had to pull the motor out of it and put a new crank and bearings in.

And YES, it will affect your performance because the knock sensor picks it up and retards the timing. Makes it run like a dog.

Car runs great... picksup fine and cruises no problem. So you think I should just try the Slick500? Should I do an oil change asap? Because I just did one less then 2 weeks ago

Re: Engine slap?

Also, car sounds NOTHING like the audio sample from Shoebox... it sounds like a clock ticking... very subtle and weak but noticable.

Re: Engine slap?

You said the knock sensor picks it up... but I got the OBD1 conversion, doesn't that conversion turn that sensor off?

No OBD1 uses the Knock sensor as well.

A clock tick does sound more like valvetrain.

Re: Engine slap?

So if is no knock sensor... it wouldn't pick up the knocks and retard my timing giving me very poor performance... right?

Re: Engine slap?

You have a knock sensor and unless someone programed it out your pcm, your pcm will retard timing if you have vavle tap.
