Alan is right...someone needs to get these to the track, gphtp seems to be swayed by advertisers imo like every magazine besides the *****

Maybe it's just me but GMHTP can't make anything run and doesn't have enough technical know how to do the little fixes to make them run. Dart works mostly with engine builders and not magazine hacks, so getting a set of Dart heads with a good valve job on them with the right sized valves seems impossible for GMTHP to do. Look what they did with the LS head dyno shoot out. The 275cfm flowing Dart 225's with the wrong valves in them made 20hp less than a 327cfm TFS head. I know for sure that those LS1 heads they have can get wokend up 20-30cfm with a correct valve job for the chamber and port. Hell with minor work and the stock Dart VJ the 225's can move 316cfm.

OK, bad example...I just want to see track results before I tear into an already fast set up...

For the guys looking to get these heads assembled from Dart with no porting, the one guy that has been running them on his LT1 in his CapRice (9C1) since August just ran his personal best of around 12.20 @ 112? mph this past weekend at Etown. (very good weather). Better than the old set up by .2 ET and 2? mph. The old heads were GM iron LT1 with home porting. The heads seem to be a slight improvement. Or another way to look at it, the heads at least are not making him go slower.

Just remember to shorten your steam line banjo bolt (if needed) and watch out for casting holes that let oil out of the front/back assessory bolt holes.

The person mentioned above had a rocker stud unscrew itself that same day at Etown. I put those rocker studs on the heads and installed the heads on his motor. So it must have been my scew up or gremlins in the head wrecking havoc. My 1st though was he was rattling the motor but that causes broken studs and springs and rockers falling off etc. This was a stud just laying there not broken and it was not stripped out of the head. That only points to the installer....(hummm).

Or perhaps a less than perfect thread in the head. Too large a minor diameter (ID of the thread) will give very little thread for the stud to grip on and might deflect/move with cycling loads.

I'm impressed with you assuming the blame, Karl.

Old Stroker, or Bret, or anyone, question.
Do you think I should use locktite on all the rocker studs in case the others want to do the same thing an unscrew themselves?

thanks,
Karl

I would always use an adhesive on those bolts. That is definitely a good idea.

Would loctite seal the oil out from the intake runners like thread sealant would? I don't see how they would come loose if they are torqued to 55 ft lbs.

Karl,

Remove a couple more studs and check the threads compared to the one that unscrewed. If they look the same and the drilled hole is the same size, it probably was OE (operator error).

Bret would have a better answer for the Loctite. I'm leaning toward torque being enough if the threads are good in the head. If they are buggered, Helicoil the bad one.
