coolant temp sensor

Tried to buy a coolant temp sensor for my 97t/a,the one for the gauge on the dash and keep getting a dual pin style but my connector has a single pin, whats up?

anyone have the correct part #,or do I need to modify the dual pin model?

They're trying to sell you the sensor in the water pump housing for the PCM.

Re: coolant temp sensor

No its the one for the head, the sensor for the water pump is smaller.
Just went to my local dealer and found out there are no single pin sensors available so now I have to buy the pigtail to convert mine over at a cost of $40.00 plus $33.00 for the cts.
Just another reaming by G.M.

You got reamed alright but you can undo it. First, take that stuff back. Then go online and search for the part number I gave you. GM still uses that exact sensors in all sorts of vehicles. GMPARTSHOUSE.COM is a good resource to show what it fits and what a price could be.

I would be cautious of the oreilly generic brands. I bought 2 of them and each said the car was running at nearly the red temperature line. Replaced them many times, bleed the system many times, nothing helped. Replaced it with an AC Delco OEM sensor and the gauge was back to normal.

Re: coolant temp sensor

Its not the sensor that i'm being reamed on its the wiring pigtail that has about 3 dollars worth of parts that they charge 39.52 for.

Also I was told a long time ago by a great mechanic not to buy those cheap offshore replacement parts that advance, auto zone and o'riellys sell and stay with ac delco and i wouldn't have any problems and that has been true at least with me.
