Changin plugs and wires
Hey fellas: I am goin to change my plugs and wires this weeknd and wanted a good recumendation of what kind of good and inexpensive plugs and wires to use (AC Delco?) and what all i need to take off to make this job as easy as possible for those of you that have done it before!! thanks guys!!!
well i just did mine this weekend. i bought NGK tr55 plugs and a set of taylor spiro pro 8mm wires from thunder racing. the wires are on sale now for $43 and the plugs are $2 each.
as for install...
i removed three things, the alternator, the tension pulley and the passenger motor mount.
i was able to do 7 plugs from the top, and the 8th (driver side rear) from the bottom. the reason i removed the motor mount was so i could jack the motor up 2" so that i could slide my hand down along the block. this made a world of difference, you'll know what i mean if you look at it. like a said, i got all 4 passenger plugs from the top. the reason i removed the tension pulley was just so i could route the wires through the stock "holders" easier. it's probably not needed, but it's jsut 2 small bolts and took a minute to do.
the whole process, including all the removing/installing parts AND routing the wires through all the stock looms took me exactly 4 hours. and it was my first time.
the best suggestion i have is to take your time, take lots of breaks and DEFFINATLY jack the motor up. the bolt on the mount is a pita to get to, but it was worth it.

First of all I am not bragging, also I have stock manifolds. The following is basically how I got mine changed.
I have pulled each plug, performed a compression test and put new plugs in all done in less than 3 hours.
The drivers side very easy back two from the bottom, front two bottom or top.
The passengers side I get all from the top and basically all by feel. Yes I have toasted my arm a bit so let it cool down.
I used the spark plug socket with the hex head and then a short socket that fits that hex. that way you have some slide with the wrench and you don't lose the socket like using an extension. With each passenger plug there is a varied combination of no extension and using extension but if you have patience and are willing to jam your arm in very tight it isn't that bad.
Remember to check the gap on your new plugs before putting them in.

How to tell if a spark plug is good. Do you mean a used one and if it still has life or a new one comparing brands??
With my 98 Malibu the stock platinums were supposed to be good for 100,000 miles. On a Z28 I am not sure but I would assume you could go at least 50,000 miles before changing them.
As far a brand goes I would use same as factory or what ever GM reccomends,, unless you are going higher performace and then I don't know as i run my engine pretty well stock.
