checking valve to piston clearance

checking valve to piston clearance

Is it ok to bolt on a head without a head gasket just to check this? I don't want to waste $35 on another gasket if I don't need to.

It's fine, just take the compressed gasket thickness of the gasket you're gonna be using into account.

Use the old gaskets, if you still have them.

I never had the old ones. I bought a bare block to build my 383
