Can you start your LT1 without coolant?

Ok, so i just bought a 95 camaro in good running condition; for the exception that it had an oil leak coming from the timing chain cover's gasket. So, i replaced the gasket; and so far i have put the distributor and water pump back in place. I wanted to fire it up real quick; before i finish putting everything together, now the fact that it doesn't have coolant yet is enough to not start? it cranks, but thats it. Or you guys think i probably didn't put the optispark right? Any suggestions are appreciate it!

ok heres what u need to do. first u need to set the number 1 piston at TDC, rotate the crank shaft untill both the crank and camshaft sprocket timing dots are at 12 o'clock. the camshaft dowel pin should be at 9 o'clock.
now looking at back side of the opti, rotate the rotor drive so that the larger slot where the cams dowel pin sits at faces the number 1 mark. install the disributor making sure the slot and the dowel pin are alligned.

Well, you can do it that way but it isn't necessary. Please look at this pic: http://shbox.com/1/opti_back.jpg All you have to do is make sure the dowel pin goes into the marked slot.....just turn the distributor to get it where you want it and slip it in...

Yep... just follow Shoebox's photo. Simple as that.
