slight overheating

I got my 93 z28 6 speed, I just dropped in a 383 lt1 into it, New radiator, New thermostat, water pump, new cap, and new coolant hose. When I'm cruising around the temperature is fine below half way. But when I get into traffic or a stop light, it starts to slightly over heat. Eventually getting to the red. I thought about doing a manual fan switch. I was wondering if anybody knows why it over heats?

Re: slight overheating

Do you have the correct LT1-specific thermostat? What temperature?

Did you use the old splined shaft for the new water pump, and if so did you inspect it for wear?

Did you carefully bleed all air out of the cooling system?

Do the fans come on when they are supposed to - first one at 226°F, second at 235°? Has the ECM been reprogrammed?

Have you verified the accuracy of both the coolant temp sensors - the one in the head for the gauge and the one in the water pump for the ECM?

Re: slight overheating

The sensors are new, the fans lag sometimes, the water pump is brand new, thermostat is 160 degrees. And a did bleed out the air

Re: slight overheating

To repeat:

Do you have the correct LT1-specific thermostat?

Did you use the old splined shaft for the new water pump?

New questions:

Are the radiator baffle and all the seals correctly installed?

Have you scanned it for codes?

You should do a data log, to find out at what temperatures the fans are coming on, and why they "lag". GaryDoug has added the 93 to the models that are scanned/logged using Scan9495.o

Re: slight overheating

It is the correct thermostat and a new splined water pump, I haven't scanned for codes.
