Cam Selection Help
I would recommend doing the rockers with the cam, they make a chunk of the power gains you'll see.

My research on the LT1 said that 1.6 rrs are one of the best mods $ to power wise. Im totally with Stroker save your money, and do it all at once. This will make it more fun when your done, and will allow you one easier install process rather then 3 or 4 installs.
Since we are on the subject...why are so many people down on the Hotcam kit? $550 seems like a deal for what you get and I have to beleive that GM did their homework when they designed this thing. Am I wrong? It just seems that lots of people have the "I'll throw the biggest cam in a stock motor" mentality.
That being said, what kind of ET differences would a person might see with an LT1 car with the normal boltons, a tune, stock heads and intake with something like a CC503 vs a hotcam?

no one is down on the hotcam kit, yeah my cam is bigger than the hotcam and it maybe makes 20 more hp, maybe... I also planed on geting ported heads so thats why i went with that. It is a good kit but the valvesprings are pretty weak, they hardly can control the hotcam at higher rpm's so don't try to run them with anything bigger.
People always have thier opinions. Its a good kit, I don't run one, but many do. Cams are very application specific. It can make or break our combo, so when people say "Hotcams suck" take it with a grain of salt. Many times they are right a Hotcam does suck FOR THIER COMBO. Over all if you want to keep your HP modest retain drivablity etc its a great way to go.
If you want big HP numbers, and hope for big time ETs then a application specific grind is more in order.
Main thing is The Hotcam kit is a great bang for your buck, and is head and sholders over the stock LT1 cam.

well when i bought the car i was told, "there is somehtign wrong with the bottom end" and thatn was the reason why the engine was 3/4 disassembled, tranny was out, etc etc becase they were pulling the engine to rebuild...so being that this was a friend of mine, I took him at his word and figured he knew what he was tlakign about....now i took apart everything and havent found ANYTHING that was worn enough to ask for a rebuild. All bearings, pistons, cylender walls, etc were FINE. My brother (professional Mechanic) looked at it and agreed with me that there was nothing wrong with this motor...the block and everyhtign is at the machine shop getting checked out and cleaned up, so we will see if it might have been something unseen to the eye or soemthing. So asking my friend, I found out that he was told something was wrong with the bottom end, from a dangerious source. I say dangerious becuase they know so little, but seem to knwo so much about mechanics (ex, they have a highly modded 355, in a 3rd gen. Kept the v6 computer and fuel pump, but claim the rough idle and burning a set of rings is becuase of the cam and that the 750 carb is getting enough fuel, becuase the regulator shows the right psi, yea that kinda dangerious)...so I think the guy was misinformed, and due to this I am rebuilding the motor. I would rather spend a few 100$ and have a refreshed engine, than peice together waht they started undoing and trying to fix it (nothign was completely removed, AC Lines, power Steering Lines, Oil Cooler Lines, etc etc were all jsut cut off by this same guy). So with that nightmare that they created, that is why I am redoing the engine
Any GM dealer should be able to get it for you. P/N 24502586
