Cam Selection Help
straight from a book about building small block chevy's
"...your favorite hero racer endorses Hu-Mon-Gor cams because 'they really work for me,' and he might even be telling the truth. They work for his application, and unless your application is exactly like his it will not work for you."
that being said, first define your goals.
to be successful, you need to have two simple things: combination and application. If you mismatch stuff, you have performance loss
A substantial number of cam buyers still seek the biggest, meanest, stick that can buy, regardless of their combination and application. Because of this, manufacturers use "advertised durations" which add to the confusion.
Remember that the advertised duration is purely theoretical and it does not usually represent the actual time that the valve is off the seat.

Still stands that a HotCam kit will get you were you want to go cheaply and effectively looking at what YOU want out of the car. Otherwise a cam kit will be a little over a grand total to do it correctly, I know I do this all the time.

LMAO thats the funniest sig I've seen in a long time! Stroker I am new to the boards and have been told I should get with you with some of my questions. Your AIM screen name is invalid.
On the cam or anything else. You should sit down and think over exactly what you want out of your car. Weekend racer, times you would like to run, and even the street maners it has. Once you figure that all out find one of the Guru's on the board and send them a PM. This place has the best tech advise and they dont want you to spend needlessly.
I like the hotcam kit for all you get for the price. Its not the "best" power making cam, but I am thinking it would be your best bet for what you are looking for in power and time.

$229.88 is what lifters will cost you, but unless yours are damaged I don't see why you need to change them. The kit comes with springs and everything else including 1.6 rr's made by Crane (nice looking pieces IMO). I am not 100% sure but I think the stock covers fit, I would do a search to make 100% sure though. Might just need a small mod to the covers to get them to fit.
to make the valve covers fit all you have to do is bend the supports inside so they will clear the rockers, takes 5 min and your good to go, from what it sound the hot cam kit is just what you are looking for...
Comp doesn't make a Hotcam. They do offer some more street friendly grinds that are close to a Hotcam, such as the CC305.

No don't try and piece anything together! Please Please Please!!!!!
Trust me this si what I do for a job, and if you just want a simple cheap effective cam kit get the LT4 Hot Cam kit. Otherwise IT WILL COST OVER $1000 to do right and not have parts failures which will cost more money in the end.

I would listen to SStrokerAce, if you start piecing together things and trying to cut corners, you are asking for trouble. The Hotcam kit is just about as complete as you can get: Complete kit includes GMPP 1.6 Roller Rockers, valve springs, retainers, valve locks & shims. You can get the kit for around 500 bucks brand new from Summit. Thats probably the best you will be able to do for a low cost cam swap.
