best location for tranny cooler
i am switching to a 350 turbo tranny and im going to use a tranny cooler with a fan, so it will be hard to put it in front of the radiator. have any of you guys located them elsewhere? how about the area in the very front of the car on the pass side? theres like a plastic covering with slots in it right below the battery. any other ideas, suggestions, pictures? thanks

If you can avoid it, don't put it in front of the rad,although it's the most convenient place to put it. I had mine mounted there and was seeing higher coolant temps than I would have liked in hot weather. As soon as I mounted it ala Injuneer (but on the passenger side), I saw a 10-15 degree reduction in coolant temp. Mine is piped in series with the factory cooler with the fluid passing through the rad cooler first and then the aux cooler.
With the intercooler mounted in the nose of my car, I was going to mount it in front of the passenger side front tire with the fan (8" BeCool) mounted to blow through it. Of course, this requires cutting the wheelwell a bit.
Mine is set up such that the air picked up by the front air dam is directed right over the cooler. When the car is moving it's receiving airflow. Since the cooler is in series after the stock cooler, then it can only be dropping existing tranny temps. Exactly how much is dependant on the amount of air blowing through it. For piece of mind I'm getting a thermostatically controlled fan, but I haven't done that yet.

The shop that installed my TH400 picked the Perma-Cool. I know absolutely NOTHING about auto trannies, except that I need one to make up for my poor M6 skills.
Keep in mind that my car was originally an M6, with no provision in the (Griffen) radiator for the tranny fluid. Using only the Perma-Cool, I can generally keep the trans fluid near 200degF even under extreme loads. A couple weeks ago we did about a half dozen full nitrous dyno pulls, and the tranny fluid never got warmed up. I have a switch to turn the fan off, since it wasn't needed for most street driving, and gets annoying after a while.

Spal, Derale, Flexalite all make fans that you can use for your cooler, just pick the right size and the right type (pusher or puller). One of the above mentioned companies also offers a thermostatic contoller that runs the fan only when the tranny fluid temp crosses a certain threshold. I forget who it is though.
