Auto meter oil gauge on a lt1 ? ahhh.... shoebox?
Auto meter oil gauge on a lt1 ? ahhh.... shoebox?
I want to run an auto meter electric oil gauge. My car is a 94 and has the oil sending switch down by the oil filter. Could I run the Auto Meter gauge on the intake rail where the late 94 and up sensors are located. I believe there is a plug in the hole now, but I don't see why the sender from the auto meter couldn't be adapted using bushing , if needed. I haven't bought the gauge yet cause I am sick of buying stuff only to change my mind or find out it doesn't fit/work. Are there any alternate places to put it. I am not sure if putting a tee in the original location would work. I have a water temp gauge also and was told not to tee out of the drivers side head because it will mess up the resistance or something of the sensor so I just didn't try it.I will just remove the plug from the passenger head and install the sender on that side. I hate being the guinea pig!!

I would put a tee inline the the stock sending unit. I would also use a mechanical gauge. IMO, they are more accurate than electric and less likely to be effected by the charging system.

Yes, you can use the spot on top of the block. I just installed one on my 95. I used the spot above the oil filter since the stock sensor is already on top.

Obviously, either location will work for installing an oil sensor. Either head will work as well for a temp sensor. You could also add some fittings spliced inline to a heater hose for a temp sensor.

I tried removing one of the small plugs in the front and used a 1/4 drive ratchet. I had to use a piece of pipe and the ratchet crumbled into pieces
Thank god I used a craftsman. Them guys will replace anything!

Here's a temp sensor installed in the return line from the back of the heads on a 94 (95 and newer that line is routed differently).... simply a brass tee spliced into the line:

Maybe I will go that route. I have a new line for heads as my original was beat up pretty good. The new one from GM didn't include the hose that was crimped from the factory like my original.
