Anyone have a how to guide on pulling the motor out the bottom?

I have my new motor ready to go in and now i just need to drop the old tired one out. I want to pull the motor out the bottom since i am going to put in a new clutch and pressure plate that way i won't have to pull the motor out the top then take the tranny out the bottom. I can probably figure it out, but it would be nice to have a guide to go by and also that way i don't end up taking off things i don't need to or end up spending hours trying to avoid taking off something that has to be taken off anyways. Any one have some instructions. Thanks

I used that guide and pulled the motor in about 4 hours, not too bad for the first time. It really is easier than you'd think it would be.

The worst parts it just unhooking all the wires and misc crap. The drop is only 6bolts on the k-mem, and 8 on the struts. 2hr with a lift and nice tools is not that hard to do.

No way. Obviously you have never tried taking it out of the bottom. I have done it both ways, and taking it out of the bottom is much much easier. Especially if you have headers on the car. Aren't you the guy posting here last week for help on how to pull one from the top???

That is a good post on taking it out the bottom. But I see a couple of things that are not necessary...

You do not need to take the hood off. I used 2 jacks to jack the body up, and then you do not need a engine lift or hood removal.

You do not need to disconnect the A/C lines at all. Just remove the compressor and let it hang, after the engine is out, tie it up with a bungee cord until you are ready to install it back in.

You do not need to remove the ABS unit, just loosen the master cyl from the booster to get access to the strut tower bolts. Disconnect the 2 brake lines at the ABS unit for the front brakes....

Cool deal, I will try to add that to the page.

Hood was left off so I could paint the inside of the engine bay and clean things up easier.
My A/C was being pulled off anyway. As for the ABS not to sure why we removed that hummm.

How did you lift the body up?

Glad you guys like the page.

Yeah, great details on that page.

I used 2 floor jacks one on each side and jacked each side little by little until the engine assembly would clear, then set the stands. Your way also works well, but some people do not have access to an engine lift. But if you have a engine lift, it only takes 5 minutes to pop a hood off right? I guess it is just a matter of if you have certain items to use or not.

Yeah, the A/C compressor is a a bit of a pain, but you can do it this way if you do not want to bother recharging your A/C system.

With hand tools and floor jacks and 2 jack stands, I can have an M-6 LT1 setup out in under 2 1/2 hours by myself. Little longer for an A4.

Ok thanks for the link and info guys. I do have one question when it says disconnect the wiring harness going inside the car what harness is that? is it part of the same PCM harness? i have had my pcm out many times but i never noticed a harness going into the car right there.

Do it from the bottom. My friend and I did it 3 time already (1 time to my car and twice to his). It gets easier each time. We had his motor out and completely dis assembled within 5-6 hours with just hand tools a jack and jackstands. You can also easily install headers and change your plugs and wires like this while you have the motor out too. I dont have the instruction on my site but you can see (in the sig) what the whole motor and tranny would look like and how easy the headers are to get to and install. Its actually Kevin's (2MCHPSI) 383 motor that I bought and me and my friend Maldo installed.

Hope that helps,
Claude

You will actually keep the harness hooked to thye engine and it will drop out with the engine, tranny. There are 3 connectors that pass through the firewall that you will need to disconnect. Just drop the kick panel on the passanger side and look at the harness passing through the firewall. Disconnect those 3-4 connectors, and fish them out.

Claude, nice pics man. Nice motor also

K thanks that is the part i was most worried about was the wiring i had heard you just unhook it and pull throught the firewall but that is a tad vague. I sure love working on my mach little wiring but little room too. Well i think the motor will be coming out monday thanks guys i can't wait to put the new one in.
