seems to me it will be easier to leave the harness in the car? or is there a certain spot that makes it impossible?

You will be able to easily reach and make all your electrical connections with the engine out of the car. That sounds easier than leaving the harness in the car, IMO.

I opted to take my engine out the TOP. I do have a cherry picker though. The way I saw in the pics was to lift the body by a strut tower brace, which I don't have. Where do you guys pull from?

FWIW, it WAS kind of a PITA having to disconnect all those electrical connectors and crap still in the car. I'm sure I'd be better off putting the engine back in through the bottom, with the harness and evreything else ALREADY on there.

Can you put the engine back up WITH long tubes already on it, and the tranny? That would be pretty damn sweet.

Here's the directory of pics from pulling it out the top. It CAN be done.

Yeah, being able to totally assemble the engine and trans (LT's too if you wanted) is the advantage.

I know you are capable of taking it out the top.

Hand tools?

I swapped sway bars not too long ago. I don't remember anything difficult about it.

theres some bracket in the way....

the last fastener is a stud, and holds the sway bar mount, and then there is a nut on top that holds down some metal bracket

LOL yep you saw it LIVE shoebox "Water pump? Just hit it with a hammer" LOL

I'm debating on going back in the bottom or not though. Do I need air tools to get the K-Member off?

BTW I think either way we go about it that &^$*^(*$ A/C compressor is going to be a PITA!

So I can pop that sucker back up in w/ the headers on, and tranny attached?

Just put the whole assembly on blocks, and lower the car down onto it? I'd have to figure a way to raise the car that high though.

But any way ya look at it, not bad for a FORD guy

winner all you have to do is take of the nut on that sway bar bracket and then there are 2 bolts on the side of it that hold it on.

Dave when i took mine out the bottom the motor and tranny were 100% assembled so i swapped all the parts over to the new motor, put in a new clutch, stuck the tranny back on and assembled it all back together completely on the k-member. I had it complete from intake to pan, header to header, and balancer to tailshaft with all the sensors and wiring hooked up.

I just wonder how heavy the front of the car is without the engine and cradle in it?

I think once you get it past the balance point it is pretty light. When i lifted the body up with the hoist and got it up in the air my dad grabbed the front of it and lifted it up high enough to get the chain loose just to see how heavy the body was. Although the Old man is animal though.
