You could get a little more advanced, as in putting a LED in your car to see when the wp was active. But I have a nice tool that showed when mine wasnt active... my temp gauge.

go to the parts store and buy a headlight relay harness from pilot for like 7 bucks. hook it up accordingly. thats how i did mine and it works Great!

that should work, just make sure its rated for the amperage of the waterpump. the pilot harness i bought i think was for either. it works perfect and was only like 7 bucks.
