Squeeking drive belt...
I had my drive belt replaced a little over a year ago because it was squeeking. It's now doing it again. I seem to remember someone mentioning the idler pulley or whatever its name is is actually defective and there was a bulletin for it a long time back. Is this true?
So basically(from what I'm guessing), I need to replace some pulley, a tensioner, and the belt to resolve the squeeky belt when the car is not warmed up problem I'm having?

Re: Squeeking drive belt...
Can you hear the noise while the car is running? You can narrow down where it is by taking a long screwdriver and touching it to said pulley/tensioner (careful not to let go!) and putting the plastic end to your ear, it amplifies the sound...
Re: Squeeking drive belt...
Something like that is wrong with my car too, only when we spray water on the pulleys/belts it quits. Its not the belts but I don't know if it may be the tensioner or compressor. Sorry for throwing this in but it kindof sounds like my problem and I dont have the money to just start replacing crap or have it looked at. LOL.

Do what I mentioned before in this post, butterbar...take a long screw driver and hold it up against different pulleys when the car is running, the one that is responsible for the noise will make a very distinct noise when you press your ear against the screw driver.

Mine made a chirping sound. Sounded like I had baby birds under my hood.

Re: Squeeking drive belt...
This has been one of the most annoying problems that I have ever had. And, if you are like me, when the noise starts, it states happening with the weather gets humid (esp. right before it rains or snows)
I have done the same things as everyone else here.
There are two belts; the large drive belt and the accesory belt behind it. Both have idlers and tensioners.
I replaced the tensioners and the idlers (not cheap) at various times. The problem would go away and them come back.
Most recently, I replaced the idler of the accessory belt, only to find out that the noise was coming from my A/C compressor going bad. I have since replaced that compressor and the noise is finally FINALLY gone.
Hope this helps.

Time to resurrect this one. The squeek I get seems to occur more when it's humid/rainy when I start my Z, it goes away after driving a few miles. When it's hot/dry outside it rarely happens. How do I tell if my tensioner is bad? I heard there's markings you can look at.
Alot of times shot bearings can cause the squeaking. It would probably be a good idea to pull off all four of the pulleys that drive the belts and check the bearings in them anyway. Its a pretty simple operation. (See the sticky in LS1 engine tech). Alot of times youll find that the cheap bearing grease GM used in those pulleys is burned up and causing your bearing to wear. If this is the case, just regrease your bearings with a good quality bearing grease (if theyre not already cooked) and see if that helps with the noise.

I guess I can do that. What confuses me is humid weather makes the problem worse and it goes away after a few miles of driving.
