MAF question

MAF question

I have a 98' Z28 on a budget and i wanted to get a better MAF, now i dont want to spend 200-300 on a new high flow MAF so i was going to buy another stock one a port it all out and what not myself. Now the real question is would it be better go go with the larger 85mm corvette MAF? Is there a difference between a ZO6 MAF and a regular vette MAF. Also what year MAf would ive need? Ive found ones that are like from 1997-2000 and the 2001-2004. not sure why the years are split right there does anyone know what the difference is?


Basically what is the best stock ls1 maf to port for a 98' Z28

go to thunderracing.com and buy the slp 85mm maf there 150 buck i think . its not worth the time to port ur stock one . also i whould invest in some headers befor u do lil thing like a maf

There are much faster cars still running the stock MAF. LEAVE THE STOCK ONE ON AND LEAVE IT ALONE!!!! Porting your MAF will more than likely make you run real lean.

Spend your $ elsewhere.

jay theres a guy at my track running 9's, all motor... 383 h/c... no spray

stock intake components except for lid and manifold.


don't bother.


edit: he has a ported t/b too... but i mean comon... hes in the 9's

there is ZERO need for a new MAF untill you are extremely higher in HP. It's not a restriction for a long long time. Your money will be better used somewhere else.

whisper lid, underdrive pulley, cutout, gears (if you can do them yourself), free mods (FRA, tb bypass) mail order tune from madz28... (then delete emissions)

are all good, inexpensive ways to gain the most bang for your buck.

things to avoid:

turbonator, tornado, aftermarket y-pipe (not needed at all), larger throttle body/maf, anything "hypertech" except for thermostat, anything flowmaster for exhaust, ignition (unless you got some decently high miles and it should be changed anyway), injectors or anything having to do with fuel supply (pump, etc) until you start making BIG power or go F/I


course a little 150 shot wouldn't hurt

I'm no LS1 expert, but that that crinkled, crushed(driver's side) excuse of a factory Y pipe can't flow very well. Aren't aftermarket Y pipes proven to make a few extra horses with stock manifolds/shorties?

its flat and ugly and funny lookin, yes... but the cross-sectional size is the same... and that tube only supports 4 cylinders, remember.

i believe it has been gain of -1 - +3 hp on the dyno's


so basically... little to no change whatsoever

def. not worth the $120

now, if you got longtubes... you would probably see a somewhat decent increase in those numbers, but you need to swap Y's with longtubes anyway...
