Gents,

To clear a few things up,

Some 01 & 02 F-Bodies came from the factory with LS6 blocks.
The color of the block means nothing.
Some LS1 blocks have a bullseye and some don't.
Casting #12561168 is a 01-02 LS6 block.
GM list the LS1 and LS6 blocks as interchangable.
The LS6 is a bit thicker in critical areas.
The LS6 'windows' are actually larger holes in the top of the crank journals to flow more oil at higher RPMs'.

There is no performance advantage in having a LS6 block with LS1 internals.

A LS6 block in a F-body DOES NOT make a LS6 motor in a F-Body!

Enjoy your cars.

While I realize a LS6 block in your F-body sounds cool, there really is no advantage to it from the factory.

However, there are LS1/LS6 conversion kits comming to the market that may be worth looking into.

Enjoy your cars.

Ok, so now us that have looked for the bullseye have to look again... Says we need to look "A casting # 12561168 denotes LS6 block. The number is located on driver's side, at back of left hand deck above transmission flange. " So how do we do that?
Mirror? Jack the car up? Explain a simple procedure and it will be done this week.. heh

Another way to check to see if its a LS6 blah blah blah... take a look at the heads.....

LS1

Part numbers:

12559853 (1997-98)
12559853 (1999-00)
12564241 (2001-03)

LS6

Part numbers:

12564243

the heads will have the last three digits marked on the lower right of the heads

Either jack it up or put it on a lift. Use a flashlight and a mirror with a telescoping handle.

Casting #12561168 is a LS6 block.

we arent saying we have an LS6 motor in there.. just that there is an LS6 Block in there.. nothing more... 01-02 had a few other LS6 parts.. But all we are saying in this message is that 10% of the 01 and 25% fo the 02 got an LS6 block instead of an LS1 block.. the rest is the same..

Gents,

A LS6 block in your F-Body might sound cool, but the blocks are interchangable per GM.

A LS6 block in a F-Body means NOTHING from the factory.

A factory LS1 Block can be modded to make very respectable Horsepower and Torque.

Enjoy your cars.

Check this out...

Go to:
http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette/gallery.htm
and scroll down and to the right there are some Quicktime videos. One is of the LS1 and one is of the LS6. In the LS6 one they talk about the block, among other things.

Just something I thought you guys may find interest in.
