LS6 block in some F bodies
What are the major differences between the two?
The block is a little stronger, through redesign to overcome the weakening that the larger cast-in bay-to-bay breathing windows cause. There'll be a little less windage and oil whipping at high rpm compared to the LS1 block, but that'll not be worth much in output, just hopefully we'll have less problems with oil mist getting up into the breather. Shame they didn't rationalize to the LS6 lifter valley breather at the same time.
My theory is that block explains the factory freaks out there running 12.8s, but that's just me. JaysZ, what did you run in the 1/4 stock?
JasonD is your SS an SLP SS? My car was built (7/16/02) yet it didn't get the LS6 block.

Hey, cool - thanks for the pics and info Jay!
According to my build sheet, the car was built:

I may be wrong, but I used to work in an auto plant so I have a little bit of background on this. If anyone can add to this or correct me on it, please do.

Like I said, this is an interesting thread.

The conversion kit is a tempting option considering how little is really different between the LS6 and the rationalised LS1. I think the harmonic damper on the LS6 is lighter, and more attention is paid to balancing the LS6 bottom end, but that's only what I've heard through investigating this. Interesting article stolen from Vette magazine here

Frezza's block (LS1 block)
Kinda interesting.
Now the the flood of questions....
So what advatages does having the LS6 block have? None? Stronger block?
What are the major differences between the two?
I know that the 2002s have the LS6 intake, so what would it take to make my car have a true LS6 (not from the factory, obviously). Is it basically just heads and cam or is there more to it than that?

Okay I have an '02 SS, for 405 horses do I really only need the ZO6 heads and cam? I already have the LS6 black, the intake manifold, I've removed my MAF screen. What are the differences between the 389 HP LS6 and the current 405 HP version. I seem to remember the MAF screen while adding a better air intake. It's in one of the Vette magazines. Anyone know?
$2,000 worth of heads and a cam seems to be a pretty good deal for 405 realiable horses.
