Last time I checked there was no ls7 z06 or LS2 GTO....lookin at the vette times so far I highly doubt the hefty LS2 GTO will be beating the 03/04 Cobra.

 

Go ahead and doubt, if that's what you want to do. I prefer to wait till they come out. As I see no reason that a STOCK 05 GTO shouldn't be a great run for a STOCK 03-04 Cobra.

 

Well mainly because of the budget, I have the option of buying a VERY cheap 94 Formula and spending a good deal of money on it or buying an LS1 and buying bolt ons...now with that said its my daily driver so I wanted to stay conservative and not try to break things or do bolt ons which require the car to be off the road for long periods of time. I just figured going into the 11's would be pushing my daily driver a little further then my bank account would allow.

Also another reason for shooting for low 12's is I can go a step milder on most mods (ie 3.42/3.73 gears instead of a 4.10, 2800 stall instead of a 3500, nice quiet exhaust instead of full length headers with 3in piping) to keep the car more tame on the streets/wallet. When it comes to modding you're not just spending money on buying/installing mods, you also have to pay for the up keep.

 

But there is a LS6 Z06. If I remember right they run low 12's with high 11's possible under the right conditions and with the right driver which is slightly better then the 03/04 Cobra. LS7 isn't out yet but I have heard some good things about it.

I'll wait for the GTO to come out before I pass judgement on them. But like you I was not impressed with the 1/4 mile times reported thus far on the C6 Vettes. But damn do they look sweet.

Anyone in the west Houston area who thinks LS1s are slow off the line holler at me....I'll take you for a ride and show you how she takes off from a dig...on slick, bald, stock tires. and STILL pull outta the hole quick as heck! Seriously they are so bald I might pop one....gotta get some Eagle GS-D3s.

And I dont know what stock Cobra yall have been racing but I hold my own around here against the stock or close to stock ones...they always shut down before I get too far ahead so I never get full race.

Point is....Cobras are not unbeatable....The 05 GTO should be a about as quick as a stock LS1 F-Body, so as long as the general gives them good tires it should be a close race...especially if the drivers are both only "so-so" drivers and not bad azz drivers.

 

Actually, I believe that they will be FASTER than LS1 F-body's. I know they weigh a tad more, but they've got another 50 ponies. There was a guy at the local track pulling off 13.2s @108 in a 6speed Goat, with only a CAI. What would another 50HP do?

 

Aw hell. Just get a street bike and you'll be faster than all of these cars. I've yet to see a LT1, LT4, LS1, LS2, LS6, '03+ Cobra, or '04+ GTO pull on a crotch rocket such as an R1, lol. Sorry if I left anybody out in my above list.

 

I got my car in October of 98 and couldn't afford to get a brand new LS1, so I got my 94 Formula. Over the years and different combos I am now knockin on 11s door with stock heads, full interior(minus back seat which weighs like a whole 10lbs), and 2 12" subs in the back. Do I love my car? Hell yes. Do I wish I could have started out with an LS1 Formula and done the mods I have done so far to that car? Hell yes! I am sure if I had the LS1 I would already be several tenths quicker.

 

I have. SleeperZ28 on here(TT 383-1003rwhp street car). Pulled hard on a tricked out 'Busa which was driven by prolly the best bike racer in the Twin Cities.

Ah yes, SleeperZ28. I do remember asking him about his car and all I could do in response was I think he was the one that was telling me that he could break his tires loose at 90 MPH. Any idea how much money he has in that thing?
