Please use the search function, this question has been posted here so many times its sickening and is probably gonna be closed....LT1 generally runs low 14's high 13's, LS1's run low 13's

Re: ls1 or lti???

and for the most part the SS is an appearance package.

hood, rims/tires, spoiler, exhaust.

some got upgraded suspension and shifters(manuals), but not all.

the "ram air hood" is not any better than a standard cold air induction untill you get up to pretty hi speeds, and the exhaust is still restrictive, just sounds better.

Re: ls1 or lti???

The exhaust is actually much less restrictive on the ss's. I forget what mag but a borla was put on in place of a standard ss exhaust and only 2hp was gained as opposed to the 7-10 you'll gain over a standard z28 exhaust.
If you're looking for a fast car go with the ls1 definetly. If you're just looking at one for looks that get whatever you want.

Re: ls1 or lti???

The LT1 ('93-'97) is a newer version of a classic "350 small-block Chevy". The intake and heads flow much better than old-school stuff (better also than TBI and TPI engines) but the difference is they run "reverse-cooling", where the coolant goes through the heads first, then through the block (instead of the other way around, which most other engines run). LT1's are VERY good, reliable engines, with "quirky" little problems such as the Opti-spark ignition system, which isn't perfect, but does its job (most of the time). Stock, I think they're rated around ~275 - 285 HP.

The LS1 ('98+) is totally, 100% different than ANY other small-block Chevy (besides the fact that it's still "5.7L"). The internal dimensions (bore + stroke) are different, but the MAIN difference is the heads. GM really did their homework, and the LSx (Gen-III) small-block heads blow away even many aftermarket Gen-I and Gen-II heads. The LS1 has a rapidly expanding aftermarket of parts, but they're more expensive than LT1's or old SBC's to buy for. However, they're worth it! Even bone-stock, the LS1 makes roughly ~350 HP (flywheel) and with a few bolt-ons, they can be pushed to ~400 HP and beyond.

...........but I can't knock LT1's and their power potential either.

Re: ls1 or lti???

Not to forget that LS-1s have a lot more space under the hood for working. This is important to do-it-yourselfers.

Re: ls1 or lti???

LT1's are an all iron block 350 ci engine with aluminum heads i believe stock, LS1's are a 346 ci block, all aluminum(heads too), their heads respond VERY well to mods and cam only LS1's have seen as low as 10.77 street legal with cam and bolt ons, they are very reliable, respond well to mods(like he said, 400+ flywheel horsepower is not unheard of), z28's look the same as the base models with some suspension and the ls1 engine, ss's have hood and spoiler different basically, the ss's have a "ram air" hood which can easily be countered with an aftermarket ram air kit such as super sucker ram air, slp cold air intake(the worst of the 3), or fast toys ram air. LT1's have 265-275 flywheel horsepower stock(240-250 to the wheels or so), and ls1's have like 335 flywheel horsepower(300 wheel on average) stock

Re: ls1 or lti???

LT1s are cheaper!! Hell, I bought mine back for $5000 a couple months ago. It is a '95 with 67,xxx miles on the clock with a new T56 in it. These things are going to be like the fox body 5.0 Mustangs pretty quick with how cheap they're getting. All I'll say is,"Watch out LS1 guys, watch out..."

Re: ls1 or lti???

The LS1 can't be beat. Period. End of discussion. j/k

Honestly though i've heard of one member on here claiming that his '01 Z28 with a lid and full exhaust beat an LT1 Z28 with a Nu-Tek 396 stroker in it by an easy 4 cars. For some reason I am tempted to raise the BS flag on that one.

Oh BTW, anasazi's sig is funny as hell I would loveto see that episode again.

.
He very well could have. But it was probably because the torque of the 396 couldn't get hooked to the road There's way more to getting down the road or track than HP.

Re: ls1 or lti???

Didn't take that into consideration. If he was on street tires and a stock suspension I could have probably taken him since he would have been swerving in and out of oncoming lanes with smoke rolling off his tires, lol.

Re: ls1 or lti???

Are LS1s standard issue in Hummers now? I hope so because the old Hummers used to be slower than me running the 1/4 mile on foot, lol. BTW, Osama will be killed or captured by an LTx powered vehicle. I can see the future so I know these things
