How many LS1's went 12's bone stock?
I remember reading a few months back a few 02 trans am's running 12's right from the factory. That is amazing! Is that true? A friend of mine just picked up an 01 ws6 and I think it's safe to say we'd be happy with a low 13 stock. How many ls1's were there that saw 12's bone stock? And if not bone stock, what are some small things you did to get into the 12's?

Thanks, Shane

FYI, car & driver and motor trend magazines test bone stock cars. in 99 my convert was rated at 13.8, and the SS 13.5. they haven't substantially changed from that. go to your local library for more info.

Very few F-body LS1's run 12's bone stock. You have to have a really good 60 footer and have something like 320 RWHP to run it. Also, most cars I have seen do it are stripper ones. But it is possible. Some good tires would easily put a WS6 in the 12's, however.

(And I think it was a '99, too. No LS6 intake.)

These are two different cars. The first one was a '99 Z28 and Evan (pretty sure he was the one driving) did get it to go 12.89. The second was the red '01 SS and I know Smith was driving that one. Although the weather was bad (hot), he still managed to get the car down to a 12.94 I believe.

With just tires and wheels (17x9 Firehawk wheels with Nitto 555RII road race tires) my '01 ran 12.97@ 108.4 on a perfect day for drag racing. It was about 40º and the track was sticky. But it was not bone stock in every way.

I'm sure if I knew how to drive when I had first gotten my car and it was stock, I would've been able to put it into the 12's. Its running consisten 12's now with intake & exhaust but it definitely has a 12.6 in it if I can get some traction.

Magazine times mean absolutely NOTHING.
What you or I or some other normal everyday Joe runs is what counts.
And my 2000 ran 13.4 @ 105 bone stock and 12.96 @ 107 with a lid, loudmouth and drag radials. And mines an automatic.

i agree quoting magazine times mean nothing but chances are they use capable drivers and have excellent track prep and show what a cars potential really is.
most people dont get the best times out of their cars.

Pretty much any M6 ls1 is limited by tires when stock, but has the power to run 12's with a good driver.
On street tires and a lid and flowmaster replacement muffler (car came with that) i ran 12.9@106...
(now i'm sitting at 12.9@110.99 ..... stock tires still.)
