fuel pump/pressure problem???

ok so my dad bought a 96 firebird a few weeks ago. the owner of it said that the fuel pump was bad. my dad got a good deal on it.
once he got it home he ordered a fuel pump for it, I changed it and still nothing.
after checking the relay and changing it, nothing.
I went under the hood and hooked a wire to the fuel pump prime connector, the pump turn on, I held the wire there and started the car, it ran fine. I took the wire off and car stayed running. worked fine for about 4 days.
then it started to not work agian.

I now checked the pressure, key on engine off there is about 10-12 psi. the car will barely start and wont idle.
car is a 96 firebird, 3.8l V6, auto.
could this be a bad pump or regulator?

we have already changed the pump, filter, relay. any suggestions?

thanks

Did you buy a high pressure (40-60psi) fuel pump?

When you say "nothing".... do you mean the pump did not come on at all?

Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator?

Have you checked for leaking injectors?

we bought whatever was called for at the parts store, stock replacement.
and yes when I say nothing, I mean the pump did nothing, did not turn on or make any noise at all.

I have not checked the regulator yet. I didnt know you could check them, I thougth you just had to replace them?

and I also never checked for leaking injectors? how do you check that?

thanks for your time and help.
