I've had 2 different sets of sleeves on my car. One from Perfomrnace Distributors and one that I got from Thunder .. Both sets allowed wires to burn INSIDE the sleeves..

They are definetly not the be all and end all of burnt wires..

sorry you had a bad experience with them sean. can you send the links to the sleeves you bought please? the ones i know of are double walled and mil-spec'ed. not every product is right for everyone, but if its something i rep for, i need to know any malfunctions as we have big name customers and any failures on our parts ( not saying thunder or performance uses our customers) could be catastrophic. i.e aircraft, military craft, etc.

What was wrong with the MSD 8.5s? The Taylors are only 8mm.

http://www.performancedistributors.com/livewire.htm .

The other sleeves are used were the Taylor Firesleeves. I just found it interesting that the sleeve did not burn, but the wire inside was melted and cracked. There I was trying to find my mis-fire. On a dark night, popped the hood and saw the blue spark off the header. I would've never known, sincie I figured they were protected inside the sleeve. I have since routed them even further from the header. Shame on me I guess.

I couldn't find an OTVC MSD kit anywhere. Plus just for the regular MSD's it was almost $90, and for the Taylor OTVC it was $100. I would argue that the MSD's are probably a better wire, however I have had Taylors before and they will work just fine as well. Nothing was really wrong with my MSD wires, other than they were a little worn, and I wanted a new set to go over the valve covers. I would sell them, but I just ended up using a wire after one of my wires from my other f-body got fried, and had to use one of my MSD's that were not being used at the time.

Just because the MSD's are 8.5mm compared to the Taylors @ 8mm doesn't mean that they are a better wire.

Re: Whats everyone using for plug wires?

I think the MSD's are the better wire because they have less resistance.

Do they make a cut to fit kit so you can go OVC with them?

Me neither. I was also reffering to the resistance not the extra .5 mm that made them better. As previously stated, the Taylors will still work just fine I am sure. I doubt anyone could seriously tell a difference in performance between the two.

I have used the MSD 8.5's for about 6 yrs and I think there great. The first set I cooked. So the next set I used DEI wire insulators and that set, which is currently on my car, is about 3 yrs old.
