BTW - What happend to your car last night Brandon? All I heard is a loud "pop"

But you did coast through the lights at 11.94? Then I saw it on a flat bed?

Is everything ok?

Man,

I am almost afraid to post here,

The car ran in the 12's right?

What kind of system is controling fuel? Does it come with an FMU?

If it ran 12's on a stock car I am interested. Maybe it isn't the most efficient setup, but it sounds like it should serve my purpose well.

When are you expecting to have a production kit ready?

One thing to keep in mind is that the stock fuel injectors to not react well to FMU's. They tend to lock up and lean the motor out. Most people will spend $250 to upgrade to some 24# SVO's.

Hey Guys, My mail box got jam-packed! If you sent me emails direct and didn't get a response, or got it back try sending again.

Spark plugs. We are just running copper core, regular plugs. Nothing fancy like platinums or anything. We gap at .035. You will blow the spark out if they are gapped very big and it will sound alot like the rev limit'r is kicking in.

Fuel is controlled by raising the fuel pressure with boost. We also found that if we put a resistor in the AIT sensor plug it helped with richening the fuel mixture as well. We did some other things to richen on our prototype when we run 10 psi boost but we still utilized stock injectors and pump. We are currently upgrading fuel system to run high boost 15 psi+. We'll keep you posted.

Clear up some confusion. Injected SS and our turbo camaro are both owned by guys named Brandon. Car that ran the 11.94 wasn't our car.

Just about ready to ship pre-release kits. Will send out production kits hopefully by end of summer.

Thanks for input and questions, Rick @ STS

Question:

I've heard this setup only works with stock manifolds. Is this true? If so, why? It seems to me that I can keep my headers/y-pipe/cat intact along with my 3" exhaust, over the axle, and a custom bend into the turbo.

Also, how many pounds of boost would be ok for a stock internal engine? I know the answer is zero, but what kind of reliability issues do we see on 5 lbs? 7 lbs? 10 lbs?

Jesse here (not an employee of STS) but i'll chime in anyway... I see no reason why you can't use your existing exhaust and make a custom bend into the turbo. I believe it was said that the kit will only "plug and play" with stock exhaust.

Anything can be modified to work with anything

on the issue of boost on a stock LTx motor... its seriously been beaten to death. Some die with 4 psi and other seems to live on making 500+ rwhp (see other thread in FI forum). Personally, its all a matter of your tune and how lucky you are.

Turbo Kit with Headers

This header issue is a big one. The beauty of a turbo kit is that you don't have to spend money on all the extra stuff. We absolutely don't want guys to have to go buy expensive parts so they can put our kits on. However, if you have already spent tons on cool exhaust, we don't want you to have to chuck it in the garbage and downgrade back to stock. We are currently working on developing a kit that will work with headers and 3" pipe.

I need somebody to bring their car by the shop to see if it fits around the headers though. We redesigned a couple of the pipes this week and are hoping they will clear. 3" pipe back shouldn't be a problem, we'll just expand our pipe to fit 3".

Don't want to hear any complaining when your header gaskets leak and your turbo doesn't come on boost as fast. Doesn't take much of a leak to mess up your spool time.

Thanks guys!

I know that this thread is 4 years old, but I had to laugh at the fact that someone said that STS turbos would never make it. Talk about a bad bet! I also have to laugh at the fact that it was supposed to be a $3500 kit, and I can't find one for less then $5000. Anyway, just found this thread amusing.

Yeah, I was laughing about that myself. STS has hit it pretty big and it seems to work pretty good. Cost is pretty steep though....then again, any forced induction system is steep.
