STS LT1 Turbo Kit
STS LT1 Turbo Kit
Well, there is lots of discussion about the STS turbo kit for the LT1 Camaro going on over here so I thought I'd register and see if I can answer any questions and clear up any issues. Sounds like some of you guys really know your stuff.
We are looking for a couple guys who want to try out this kit on a pre-release w/ full factory support to get feedback on installation and performance issues before we do full production launch. Would like some low altitude testing. You can contact us at 801-979-6554 (Rick).
Some questions have been raised about the all-out race performance of the kit. This isn't an all-out race kit. If you want to run 25 psi boost and turn your engine to 9000 r's this isn't the bolt on kit you're looking for, in fact I don't think you'll find a bolt on kit to do that. This kit is designed to produce large gains (prototype got 69% HP and TQ gains at 7 psi boost) for a reasonable price ($3500 retail) and an easy installation that just about anybody can do (2-3 hours), while maintaining stock driveability and great fuel mileage.
Our prototype (stock 93) w/ automatic and 2.73 gears went from 15 sec 1/4 mile to 13.0 @ 111 mph at 7 psi boost. Car runs in 12's w/ 10 psi boost and water injection to control detonation but has massive wheel spin (just running stock tires). We are currenetly putting in low compression turbo pistons into stock engine to allow for more boost, adding 2200 stall converter, and 3.73 gears, w/ upgrade on fuel system. Will let you know how it goes but expecting very solid 11's.
Car is great to drive, and has good throttle response for a turbo car.
Garrett engineer came up a few weeks ago just to see our kits (Tacoma, Tundra, Tahoe, Suburban, Chev PU, and Camaro). He was very impressed with how all the vehicles performed. Said our Camaro was probably the fastest car he'd ridden in.
Turbo lag isn't bad, I have a conventional turbo setup on my Chevelle. Turbo boost comes on hard and full boost by about 2500 on that setup. Camaro comes on full boost at under 3000 r's w/ no powerbrake. You can build about 3 psi on line by powerbraking w/ stock converter.
One large benefit is that your car is just as easy to work on as it was when it was stock because there is more room under the hood with our kit than a stock LT1.
Turbo temps are roughly 400 F cooler than a conventional mount.
Intake tubing is very similar to volume of tubing associated with intercooler setup w/out the pressure drop associated with an intercooler. Turbo boost and manifold boost are nearly identical (about 1/4 lb difference).
Intake charge temp drops about in half from turbo outlet to intake manifold.
If you tow your boat with your Camaro and back it down into the lake to launch your boat, this probably isn't the kit for you. Also, if you have a snow plow mounted to the front, probably want to pass again.
Will try and get some pictures up on our site pretty soon, still under major construction. Hope this info will help. Looking forward to your questions and comments and even a little constructive criticism. We want this kit to be affordable, easy to install, and perform very impressively for the money spent and time invested. Thanks, Rick @ STS

Good job,
do it, people will buy.. I'm curous to see pictures.
I just finished a unique project that turned out really well. Would you believe that someone on this board told me that It couldn't be done because if it could someone else would have done it by now?

i be curious to find out more details on how you want the kit tested, so ill shoot you an email.
i am about 10 ft above sea level (seriously, the water is 2 blocks from my house, gotta love florida).

hi, i live in Shrewsbury, MA. not too sure the height above sea level but i would not mind testing the kit on my car...what r u guys gonna do to test? mine is all stock so that may help some...im interested to hear how this all goes so keep us all updated. oh yeah, im sure there will b plenty of buyers if the kit is $3500 and makes good power...at least i think....good luck.
thanx,
jake

Jealous of all you guys living at sea level. That's more fun than living up here at 4500'. Thanks for the + feedback. It's funny how some people are convinced that it won't work, yet haven't seen or driven the car or ever tried to do what we've done. Blew the doors off of one guy that still claims it won't work??? Some of them don't even have a turbo car? Laws of physics say that a bumble bee can't fly too, but sure see a lot of them flying around!
Like the engineer from Garrett said when he came up to see our kits, "Well, you've sure simplified things haven't you!" Don't know why somebody else hasn't done this yet." We've had great success with our truck and suv kits and expect to have equal success with our Camaro kit. Dropping 4 seconds off the 0-60 times on a big lifted Tacoma is fun but the Camaro just flat out hauls. Have several people who have already signed up on our prerelease kits so email me if you are interested.
Also, looking for installation shops and sales reps to market and install our systems. Some requirements but if interested contact us. Thanks guys!

Actually, it can be proven(how bumble bees fly). its just that they can't glide, they use complex motion with there wings(front to back, then a flip) to allow the wing to create more lift than if it was stationary.

Congrats! You handled that one!
But when you look at one of those goofy looking bees, don't you just think, "There is no way it should work!"
Word to the Wise:
Gotta be careful what you post, cause there is always some guy out there thats smarter than you!

Wow, just checked out your site. Great car. I am probably one of the few who can truly appreciate what you went through to build that set up. I'll check out more when I have some time. Bombed with emails! Sweet ride!
jordan musser knows his ****! and i guarntee he wouldnt slap a piece of crap setup on his car like the one your putting out! as like myself wouldnt just as anyone thats wanting to actually spend money on something that will make some REAL POWER!!!
$3500 for some backyard TURBO KIT that uses STOCK MANIFOLDS (im sure my stroker and heads and cam will love that
) has the turbo sitting behind the rear wheel ( hope some ricer doesnt see it sitting back there and tries to steal it for his honda
) im sure thats GREAT for getting the boost back and forth
im sorry but this is just one of the DUMBEST THINGS IVE EVER SEEN this is WORST than the TORNADO cause at least that thing was only like $40

I think this turbo kit is a little better engineered than the Tornado, and it actually works, unlike the Tornado. I give the guy lots of credit for doing something different and new. I'm willing to bet you copied someone's ideas for your "stroker" and didn't do much of anything different than anyone else with a stroker. This guy did do something completely different than any turbo system manufacturer. And he did claim to look into the guys cars with headers and try to accomodate them. Its a shame that you have to slam him because it really makes you look like an ignorant *******. (fill in the blank... hint it starts with an A then a S and another S) Prove me wrong
