Re: LT1 POWR's turbo build

Hopefully soon. I have to find out why my camera doesn't want to upload the video at normal speed.

How far does the BOV need to be in front of the MAF for the MAF to get good readings that won't be throw off by the bypassed air?

Can I move the BOV to the other side of the intercooler, or would that have negative effects?

Also how many people are making this amount of power or more and still using MAF's? I'll be using a LS7 MAF and scaling the reading so it doesn't run out of hz.

Jon, how much do you think this turbo will make? I want to put in some 100 octane and turn it up just to see what it'll do.

I would think it should push 700rwhp (which is alot thru an auto). You may need to swap out the turbine housing to the larger one to squeeze out all the power you can.

Minimum is probably 6-8 inches. I put mine right next to the intercooler outlet but moving it to the other side of the intercooler shouldn't hurt anything.

Theoretically, the BOV can be as close to 1 inch from the inlet of the MAF and not throw off readings. It would only throw off by the byupassed air if the BOV is after the MAF.

If air is bypassed or blownoff in front of the MAF, the MAF never sees it, so it doesn't care or get affected. As far as placement...typical is what Chris said... ~6 inches minimum.

As far as power... that turbo is typically done @ 800rwhp w/ M6 tranny on stock cube lsx's (similar size to your motor). I think you should be able to squeeze 700-750rwhp... somewhere in there.

Supposedly putting the BPV/BOV too close to the maf can cause erratic readings. Whether it's from turbulence, harmonics, whatever I don't really know. I don't think I've ever actually seen anybody mount one close enough to the maf to cause problems. My mondo race valve just didn't look good up top since it's not polished like the rest of the pipe.

Re: LT1 POWR's turbo build

So where its at should be fine? I'd say there is at least a foot between the MAF and BOV.

of course... I put it there

it is probably closer to 18 inches away from the MAF unless you have modified it.

Re: LT1 POWR's turbo build

I redid the passenger injectors so they are 100% and I'm redoing the MAF section so its a straight 3.5" instead of 3" to 4" to 3" and back to 3.5". Hopefully that'll help with the hesitation off idle. Other than that, I'll probably just get her read for storage.

Do you think the passenger side intercooler tubing will be assessable with the front bumper cover on? And do you know if I need to modify the bumper cover to accommodate the tubing and intercooler? I'd like to leave it here and continue to work on it through the winter, but I'm not scrapping ice every morning when I can just keep my other cars inside. I just need to build on another stall.

The front bumper did not need any modifications with the original piping and intercooler. Not sure now that you moved stuff. You should turn the wick up to 15psi and she what she makes before you put it away for the year. Then you can see if you need to swap out the turbine housing over the winter.

Re: LT1 POWR's turbo build

I don't know if it'll make 15psi with the heads I have on it. I'd like to, IDK, maybe I will. What all has to be changed out, just the housing? That doesn't sound too hard. What'll be the benefits? Won't it spool a little slower?

By dynoing @ 15psi or higher, you can see where the turbo gets choked (when it sees excessive backpressure).

Then you can just swap the turbine housing. It made spool a tad slower, but will flow more exhaust.

Re: LT1 POWR's turbo build

I redid the passenger side intercooler tubing so it tucks up nicely now. I put the front bumper cover and all the trim pieces back on, with a little cutting, everything fit fine. I put the hoosier 27" slicks and skinnies on it and can still break them loose at 60mph without going wot. The motor really loves this cold air we've had lately. I put in in storage today, but might bring it out periodically to work on the interior some before spring. I've still got a lot to do.

Re: LT1 POWR's turbo build

Looking over some logs and timing on the 10psi run was around 22º. Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks I'll take it back and turn up the boost to see what it'll do. I have to get a few idle/part throttle issues worked out first. Tuner seems to think is a fueling issue. I still want to put a MAF on it, but he thinks its pushing too much air for the MAF. He's also not to keen on switching to E85, doesn't think my twin walbros will supply enough.

Also I switched from 91 octane to 93 octane with E10, hopefully that doesn't through off the tune too much. I really need to get the wideband hooked up. Also toying with the idea of rerouting the air filter to lower IAT's.
