Cam selection, need help!
Cam selection, need help!
Allright, I've had a (what I think is) lifter failure and my motor needs to come apart. I've been running the stock heads and cam with a powerdyne 4.5 kit for a while now. I have a new set of lifters and I'm going to change out the cam bearings and check the stock cam for damage. Since the cam is coming out I figured I'd toss a new one in there. After talking to a good friend of mine (with a solid roller 396 of doom) he's recommended the comp cam 305. It seems to have decent drive ability and I've heard it responds to boost well. Does anyone not recommend this cam or recommend anything else? I'm not looking to make the most amount of power possible, just make the car sound better and more fun to drive.

im running a 230/236 on a 112 with 10psi in a 385 and am pretty happy, ill probably change it out too a blower cam this year sometime but for what you have it would probably pretty awsome.. but if i where you since your gonna be doing so much work i woulding even waist my time without pulling it and changing the pistions wile your at it or you are waisting your time and money.. put some blower pistons in there with the 305 or 230/236 and pully down that powerdyne some and you will be very pleased and your set up will last
Is 220/230 114 not suited to my application? I've done some reading on this and it seems like a good option for my purpose. I'd like to get an "off the shelf" cam, not a custom one. Just looking for some reccomendations/opinions, thanks in advance.

Ok, thunder racing has two cams that are recommended for blower applications:
"Comp Cams "Extreme" LT1 Camshaft, 218 / 230, .495 / .510 114 LSA, Aggressive camshaft for street/strip blower applications. Computer tuning required."
"Comp Cams "Extreme" LT1 Camshaft, 224 / 236, .502 / .520 114 LSA, Very aggressive camshaft for street/strip blower applications. Heads, Exhaust, Stall or M6, Computer tuning required"
The car will be re-tuned for the new cam. Is it ok to run the second cam without a stall and stock heads? It's not that much more aggressive than the first one which doesn't require them. A stall will come later with a new short block, more boost, and rear. Would this be ok for now?
I've never cam'd a car before so I'm looking for some suggestions/input, thanks.
