Can somebody answer this question about a vortech crank pulley?

Vortech sends a factory crank pulley aka balancer with their lt1 kit part # 4GH018-021. When I contacted Tech support they will only tell me that it is a "machined chevrolet oem unit". Now they want over $400 for it and the blower pulley, but only $160 for the blower pulley alone. What is specially machined about this pulley? I am already needing to purchase the mounting brakets and tensioner from them as all I have is the plates and SC pulley. Do I really need their "custom machined pulley" or will a stock or possibly locally machined pulley work?

Also does anybody know of somewhere that I could order these other parts at a discount? Maybe a wholesale vendor. Or is the only outlet directly from Vortech? Please don't say ebay as I have been watching there daily for 6 months with no luck.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Summit racing has a decent discount off vortech prices... Just enter the vortech item number on summits website and most of the items are listed on there. I just had to order a discharge tube and a air intake setup. As far as the machined balancer... It looks similar to the stock balancer but there is a couple of differences that are noticable such as a groove cut for the crank pulley to sit it and where the crank pulley bolts up to the balancer is a special fit. hopes this helps some.

You might try Auto Specialties Performance(ASP) 281-261-8845. I got a 8 rib crank pulley from them for my 89 with a Vortech. Maybe they can help. I dont currently know their website address.

lt1 balancer

its only a factory balancer machined a little on the inside hub so the vortech pully can sit inside the factory balancer allowing the vortech pully to aline with the blower pully IMO for 400 bucks you might as well but a fluid damper and get it machined A machine shop should ony charge 50-100 to machine it

That was what I was thinking, just didn't want to drop the $ on an sfi damper if I couldn't use it.
