The piston in the valve body of mine cracked, and one of the pumps was out. Also something having to do with Reverse.

This is the reason we update all of our "Pro Race" builds to steel pistons.

Re: What broke in your 4L60E?

Ok, so my 4L60E won't perform the 2-3 shift under wide open throttle but it will shift at 1/2 or even 3/4 throttle. I've taken it to a transmission shop and I guess that all they did was install a Trans Go shift kit, new servos or boost valves, and wider bands even though they were supposed to fully rebuild it. I took the car out to the strip a few weeks later and it still had the problem so I took it back to the shop and they ran a scan on the transmission and all they said was that the TPS was at full voltage but the transmission still isn't shifting. Basically told me that it was a CPU problem. I took it to the dealership to get it diagnosed and all they could tell me is that all the parameters are correct and there are no trouble codes present. So here I am a few weeks later and the transmission is still messed. I would really like to know what the problem is or could be so any help is appreciated.

Thanks again Dana of Pro-Built. The Transmission feels great.

Forward Sprag...I had reverse only. Also, all the forward clutches were toast. A whole 57k miles, most of them highway.

Re: What broke in your 4L60E?

Hell which time. Lets see a busted output shaft, an exploded imput drum, 2/4 shift band and drum, 2 sets of 3/4 clutch packs, 4 gear planitary, cracked sunshell, forward sprag, several selinoids and pump. If its going to happen its going to happen to me. it makes for six rebuilds in seven years. But I'm sure the 4400 lb weight of my car doesn't help either.

2 things contribute to this, and they're both internal transmission problems. One is 'holding power" of the 3-4 clutches, and the other is hydraulic pressure at higher RPM's.
We get these complaints alot before a rebuild. We know how to fix all these little issues.

Re: What broke in your 4L60E?

I've gone through 4 4l60e's now. We broke the stock one while installing the converter. Broke the 2nd in 500miles (trans started slipping it would shift fine through all gears just if you went wot it would run right into the limiter). Broke the 3rd in about a thousand miles (same problem and 2nd tranny) prolly cuz the same local guy built it. Got fed up and ordered a built limited street 4l60e from dana and pro built (the 4th tranny) and now a year and a half later and about 2 thousand miles on it and 3rd and 4th gears are about as usless as a football bat. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed I paid that much for this built tranny and its now as good as a paper weight.

WOW, I would have thought Dana's stuff would have lasted longer then that, what did he do to it? Was it a completely new one from him, or a rebuild of yours? What clutches are in it? Do you have a parts list that I can compair to CPT's to see why Frank's stuff hold up better?

How many n2o Passes on it? I know the 4l60e can handle bigger shots of N20 and faster times then that. There are a lot of guys I know taking the 4l60e into the 10's and a few more in low 11's even 11.0's on 150 - 175 shots for years with no trouble, when built right.

Is Dana doing anything to help you out with this?
