Which of these Strange drive shafts do I need?

Hello, I'm looking at the drive shafts offered by Strange Engineering because they seem to have decent prices but there are 3 or 4 different ones available. I assume the most expensive one is the strongest, but I don't want to pay more than I have to.
The car is in my sig. It should make somewhere around 600rwhp. Stock 10 bolt for now so I will have to stay off the track for the time being. 2.73 gears and car won't see over 6500 RPM becaues the power should fall off after 6000RPM with this cam.

I'd just get a hold of Denny's Driveshafts and not even mess with those. Denny offers a lifetime guarantee on his Nitrous Ready shafts; if you break it, he'll build you another for free.

Great shop, great guy (he's local for me, but known everywhere)

If you have the stock rear why worry about changing the dr shaft, just continue using the stock steel one.

I considered it but it seemed like these were priced a little better and Strange seems to make good products.

How much is a Denny NR shaft? I thought I read they were around $400?

I guess that's what I'm trying to figure out though...how often does a chromeoly driveshaft break? What kinda power (or 60' times) are you guys cutting where you're breaking any kind of chromeoly shaft? I'm not going to have an 8 second car so I'd rather not pay for an 8 second drive shaft. I see a trend on here where everyone recommends only the best (which can be a good thing) but when you're considering a large project, there comes a point where you're "over-engineering" some of your components and just wasting money which could be spent else where.

Thanks,
Michael

I can somewhat see your point...care to elaborate on why you recommend that?

The only reason I was worried about it is because my buddy broke his stock DS on the street...he was making around 440rwhp but it was an LS1 car--so a weaker, aluminum shaft.

Go with Denny's ! Its not too expensive tough. But they want you to measure and I still couldn't make it. (I will order from Denny's too)

They want like 10 different measure!! http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/html/b.html

What is the diameter of the Strange chrome moly DS? .... tubing thickness? .... does it include the tranny yoke?

Diameter = 3"
Wall Thinkness = .083"
1350 Series Spicer or Strange solid U-joints

I guess I'm not sure whether a tranny yoke is included or not? I know they offer them seperate, so I assume they are an additional cost. I see mention of their availability at www.strangeengineering.net

Denny's offers more than just the NR shaft, that's his top-of-the line shaft.

What type of guarantee comes on the Strange? The NR shaft comes with a lifetime breakage guarantee; if you break the shaft (not the yoke) he will build a new one for free; plus lifetime labor for changes (shortening, yoke installs, and balancing)!!!

Strange makes a decent product, but I know a LOT more people running the Denny's than the Stranges.

If the NR is too much, they off the HD shaft as well. But when it comes to driveline stuff, I'd say go best or go home; just because you're not building an 8-second car why not put the best parts you can find in that you know will take anything you throw at them instead of something that only may take what you throw at it and have to spend more $$ in the future to fix the broken stuff and do it right the 2nd time for 2x the cost instead of doing it right the first time at 1x the cost.

I can speak from this...spent $200 on a custom build DS at a local shop and the guy said the ran the same one in his 9 sec camaro and was cutting 1.3 60's all day...few weeks ago I had the ujoint snap off that DS and it took out my $400 trq arm and it cost me $175 to get the car towed home...Anyways, If I would have paid $500 for the Denny's DS in the first place I wouldnt be in this situation and would have saved $$$..

Alright, I called Strange and spoke to them about which one of the STRANGE drive shafts to use. The guy recommended: Seamless Chrome-Moly DS (Spicer H.D.)
Part#: STR-U1702. It does not include the slip yoke but you can buy one. And said total it would be somewhere around $350. This is approximately the same price a Denny's HD drive shaft will cost and appears to be very similar materials. However, Denny's has a guarantee so I would lean towards it.
Now I need to decide whether its worth getting one with the stock 10 bolt.

How much abuse can the stock drive shaft take on an automatic car? Are people getting away with stock ones with 1.5-1.7 60' times and up to 600rwhp? If not 600rwhp, maybe 400 or 500? Or is it likely to just break.

It's likely that after I graduate next May and hopefully get my first engineer's job I will be able to afford the 12 bolt at that time and at that point I would need yet another drive shaft fit up to the 12 bolt!

But at this time, I don't have funds for a 12 bolt so I need to make it hold together for a few months here. Chances are, I won't have the tuning done to run high boost until next spring anyways.

If your going to buy a 12 bolt soon (within a few months is soon) then use the stock shaft and stay out of the throttle.

I have a stock internal LT1, Nothing but bolt ons. I have an LT1 manifold setup for Direct Port Nitrous but its never been hooked up.

The transmission I have in the car now is the 3rd one. Rossler TH400.
The rear end I have in the car now is the 3rd one. Strange 12 bolt.
The DS I have in the car is the 3rd one. Dennys Nitrous Ready.

I tore up all those driveline parts with a STOCK internal LT1. Your talking about 500 horsepower. Buy the best parts you can get when it comes to driveline equipment. You won't be sorry.

Yea, I'd just stay stock steel DS for now with your mods and such. Once you get the 12-bolt then order the new DS.

Agree, and it doesn't matter if you go Strange or Denny's. Both are good products.
