Overrun clutches causing my problems??
Overrun clutches causing my problems??
Okay it's like this. A while back i came out of this corner....the corner of the street i live on. Come out WOT and i hear something in the tranny. I remember it was in D, and i shifted it up to OD right before it. Which was probably stupid, but anyway. From that day on every time i'd put it in let's say 2nd in town and let off the gas, it would seem to go into neutral (rpms would drop to idle while in 2nd when not on throttle) I was told by many that this is the overrun clutch packs-not holding the rpms. It still only holds rpm in OD when you let off the gas, all the other gears, when you let off drop down to around idle speed. By the way, it has the Trans go shift kit so you can hold any gear as long as you want---not that i do it. I always wondered if a check ball could have got dislogged or something, since i did install the kit myself. I followed very closely, but anyone can mess up.
But what my question really is, how would this effect my 1/4 times in the last half the track? This car has always trapped low, and seems to die up top at the higher speeds, where it's noticable. I was just wondering how important these overrun clutches are in tranny operation.....i thought they were only used when shifting, but maybe they are causing some kindof slip up top? Is it possible? My best is in my sig with that 60'. a 1.78 60' @13.5XX. That seems like it's not going up top.....people are running me down the last half the track and i really don't like it. Think this might be part of why this car has always been slower than the rest and i have thousands into it and running a 13.5, when people with exhaust and intake run these numbers.

Re: Overrun clutches causing my problems??
The lugs are broke off the overrun hub on your input sprag. This will not affect top end performance, though. The O/R clutches only affect engine braking in manual gear ranges.

Re: Overrun clutches causing my problems??
Are overrunc clutches engaged when shifting, because i use to be able to chirp them into 2nd, now it doesn't do it and the shifts are a lot less crisp. Up to that point,k it would really hit it hard, now it's almost back to stock feel with the trans-go shift kit installed
