4L80E questions

I am going to go with a 4L80E trans for my 93 TA, of course the factory wiring harness won't allow it but when you get a custom wiring harness to go with your BS3 it just doesn't matter

The question is just what exactly is needed to swap them over? And how much HP can they exactly handle? Is there any certain year/model that is the best? Somebody please inform me on these questions for I am lost. Thanks for your time and help.

Re: 4L80E questions

do a search on here , there was a guy that did a very detailed install, lots of modification needed,, he even had to hack a hole in the floor just to install the electrical connector to the trans from the inside of the car because the f-body tunnel is so tight to the trans

Re: 4L80E questions

I just saw a guy named Matt Swindle, on another board that indicated his 4L80E was up for sale. Go down toward the bottom of this thread:

Ever think about a 4L80E conversion..?
I've got one for sale complete..:
This is in my '97 T/A (LT1):

TCI "built" 4L80E trans..w/deep TCI pan..
TCI 3800 converter..
TCI controller and software..(with the street and race programs with it..)
TCI Harness..
BMR crossmember..
Mild steel driveshaft w/3350 u-joints (this is my spare driveshaft w/ 10 passes on it)
a write-up on the install is also included and works with your speedo..

this thing will snap your head off when it shifts and drives like a Caddy on the street..
has less than 300 miles and 26 passes on it since TCI
freshened it this last winter..
talk about bullet proof..this is 'the' fix for all those agonizing 4L60 woes!
$2800 get's the whole kit..will not part out!
this is for pick-up..shipping is extra..

going full race next year..gutting the car..cutting weight and putting in a
glide..

My question is?? I have a 93 Z A4 and why would you want to change it?? When mine starts to slip, I'll get it rebuilt.
Thanks

Most who install a 4L80E in a 4th gen, end up swapping back to a 700/4L60E. Do yourself a HUGE favor, have a 700 built for your car. You'll lose about 2/10 with an '80E because of it's weight and ability to soak up HP.
You'll spend less money on a 700, and you'll have a transmission capable of running in the 9's (IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE BUILD IT WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING)!
If you'd like a 700 to fit your needs, check out our web page, or give me a call 302-250-1202.
