Re: Scan9495: Free OBD1 scan app for 93/94/95 LT1

Hello GaryDoug

Connect the black cable of the USB cable to the black cable (pin A) of the 12-pin connection cable.

The passage I have fairs.
For me black cable is on (pin M) on 12-pin cable.

Connect the green and white wire of the USB cable to the brown wire (pin M) of the 12-pin connection cable.

and the red wire is (pin A) on 12-pin connector cable.
Can I connect it that way or do I have to take another cable color from 12-pin connection cable.

From your post on the "New Member Intro...." forum, you have a 1994 3.4L V6. Scan9495 is specifically for the OBD-1 LT1 V8 engine used in the 1993-1995 Z28, Formula and Trans Am F-Bodys.

He does have a 3.4L V6 version:

Are the "pillows" the air bags? Are you saying the air bag light is still on ("burns")?

I tested it, but it does not connect to the car.
I've done exactly the same thing with the pen as it is described on, as Gary has already described.
Can someone help me please my car does not drive yet.

I've asked GaryDoug to take a look at your problem.

1. I don't understand what your are saying. The wire on pin A of the car's 12pin connector should be black/white and the wire on pin M should be tan (brown). The black wire on the scanner cable should go to pin A and the green and white should go to pin M. But that assumes that the TXD and RXD wires are green and white, which may not be true. Use the diagram for the cable you bought to determine the colors for TXD and RXD. They may be different on your cable. I have never seen any cable not use black for the ground to pin M. Can you post a link to the ad for the cable?

2. Make sure you are selecting the correct com port number. I usually see a number other than Com1 for the cable, but I guess that is possible. One way to tell is to run the program without the cable attached and use the program com post selection to see what numbers are available, if any. Then plug in the cable and start the program again. Check the com numbers available, the new one that gets added is the one to use.

OK, now I think I know what you are saying. You are telling me the colors of the 12 pin connector pigtail wires and that is ok. I see that you are using a continuity tester to trace it and that's ok too.

Next we need to identify the correct colors for the TXD and RXD wires on the USB cable. Sometimes they are white and green but other times they are other colors.

It appears that the ad you posted tells us the the wires are green and white.

Edit: I cannot tell from the photos which pins you are contacting with the tester. Make sure you are using the pins that match with the connector in the car. (A and M). In the first photo, they are reversed.

Also, make sure you are using the drivers that came from my web storage area, not the ones currently available from FTDI. Those may not work for this cable. You want versions 26 or 28 but not later.

View of the connector looking forward from the driver seat. Connect to pins A and M only.

Get this utility: http://www.mediafire.com/file/1e9jbd..._test.exe/file
Run it. If the cable is working, it will show counting up numbers in the text box. The cable is defective if no numbers appear in the box. It does not test the wiring to the 12-pin connector.
