Carburator Help!

I have a '84 Chev K10 pickup with a 350ci Carburated engine. I dont know didly about carburated engines, this is the first one i have ever had. But its not running right. It will start and idle fine, but when i give it gas it cuts out really bad. If I give it lots of gas it doesnt cut out, its at part throttle or low throttle that it cuts out. I have replaced the fuel filter and all the spark plugs and wires. It doesnt sound like a misfire. Can anyone that knows about carburated engines help me?

What size carburetor you got on there? Is it a new or old carb? If its an old carb the floats could be sticking. IS it a manual or electric choke?

Its old ahh ok.

If its an old carburetor could be that the floats are sticking and that would cause it to stall when you applied the gas. Im pretty sure your problem is emanating from your carb. If you got another carb throw it on there and test it out and see if it does the same thing or take the 1 you got off and get it rebuilt or change the floats.

Re: Carburator Help!

sounds like you're not getting an accelerator pump shot. with the car off and the air cleaner removed , look down the carb and work the linkage . you should see a squirt of gas. the accel pump eliminates the off idle bog you're talking about.
