How much more power would a dual 4 carburator give me?

I was wondering whether or not i should put on a dual 4 cauburator on my 85 camaro. I dont know how much more gas it would suck down compared to a regular carburator, and how much more power and hp it would give me. what do you think I should do?

In a street car? Probably less HP than you have now. You would need 2 small carbs or you'll easily over carb it. They're troublesome to set up, tune and maintain.

An all out drag car doesn't have much problems with using multiple carbs since they operate at idle or WOT all the time.

I've know people who have had them on street cars and have pulled them off for a single carb. I only know of a handfull of drag cars that use dual carbs.

It's cheaper and easier to just use a bigger single carb.

How much air can you use?
The majority of cars on the street can't use all 750cfm from a single 4bbl carb, so you'd probably lose power.
All dual plane intakes force a motor to run on half of the carb, so just going to a single plane intake will effectively double you carb size w/o the cost of a dual-ram...

dual 4bbls with stock exhaust manifolds, cam and heads on a 305. Now there's a FUBAR'd power band.

i always thought it would be cool and unique to have a "six pack" on a built 350/383 in my old iroc....

3 two barrels were fairly common years ago...any thoughts on that?

I am in the process of putting a new 350 crate engine in it. also, i am looking for a nice set of headers, so I guess i will put on a single carburator. Thanks for the advice.

Would it even HAVE a "power band", I don't think so.

As for the Tri-Power ... for nostalgic reasons, sure ... if the engine warrants the use of the CFM.

Cool? Yeah. Unique? Yeah. Useful? No. Every test I've seen on almost every type of motor has shown over and over and over that nothing makes as much power as a properly selected and tuned 4bbl. Not 2 4bbls, not tri-power, not 4 1bbls, not 8 1bbls. All of those esoteric combinations look damn cool, but can be a nightmare to tune and maintain, and even if you're one of the 2 or 3 carb magicians in your state that can actually tune it for optimum performance, you're still not going to get as much power as a good 4bbl.

Dude you wouldn't be able to drive past a gas station. And with no intake tract velocity, you wouldn't be passing many other cars either. All a 350 needs is a 750cfm 4-barrel, unless it's a show car.

Even 2 tiny 450cfm 4bbls would be a nightmare to set up.

Now you could get creative and go fuel injection. I've seen dual TBI's mounted on a BBC. With the air cleaners on the TBI's you couldn't tell it was fuel injected.

That's right. Who cares if I lose 30 horsepower and break down once a week, as long as I look cool! Just buy stickers for your car. Same effect, less problems.

if you have the right engine, 2 carbs will add horsepower... i am not going to do it unless it does so.

Show me the engine. I haven't seen one yet that benefitted from 2 carbs.
