I don't want to sound rude or anything, but personally I think two 12s sound like *** in a hatch or any car for that matter. First off, what kind of music do you listen to? If you listen to rap, then I'd look at 10s. Personaly, what I would do is a single 10, some components, two amps, and a good deck. I'd get a L5-L7 10", some Focal 6.5 Slims, two amps...one to drive the sub(a mono) and one to drive the front components, then a alpine deck. I stand by Alpine with my life. They, IMO, make the best HUs. So, with the box($110), sub($150), speakers($250), amps($400), and HU($250), you're looking at about $1200. And that will sound amazing. Your sub will not drone out your highs. Too much bass with no highs equals the system you have now. Which isn't a good thing. This is what I plan on doing with my car. So, you can do what you want. But I've put a lot of research into my system, over two years now. And this is what I've decided on. Good Luck.

I hate rap. Country and rock. I will be able to adjust with the dial with the amp. Bump it hard when i want to and easy at other times. Bump hard with friends chillen and hatch open. I talked with american for a long time on msn. got it figured out.

No, you're making a very valid point....i spent some time talkin' with him, and came to the conclusion on what would best suite him...He's gonna end up with large amounts of very clean very hard hitting bass....he will have a bass boost ****, so he can set the amps for normal day-to-day listening (not overpowering mid's-high's with bass) and when wanted, have earth shattering thunder...later on, he can easily daisy chain on another amp and power some small components if he ever wants better mids/highs...I've had about 6 different subwoofer configurations in my camaro in the last 2 years, and IMO i'll have to disagree with you on it sounding like ***, as long as you keep the bass clean, i think it sounds awesome....One of my best friends is just like you, and has his entire car setup for a healthy combo of Mids-Highs-lows...he's spent probably 2-3 times the amount of money as i have, and has one hell of a system......but i still prefer mine to his, just cause of the big bass, and shear loudness...I can open my hatch at a Big party or Bonfire and fill the surrounding area with whatever noise pollution i prefer, and thats enough for me...

Alpine does make killer decks....their RMS/channel is hard to beat, and they always seem to do everything better...but they're a lil too spendy for my blood...a friend of mine just got a higher end model...has like 300+ different color conbinations for the buttons and background that you digitally control...its crazy...

Ahhh, the CDA-9831. Great deck. My whole concern in my car is highs, I want highs. Bass comes in 2nd for me. Which is why I'm going with the single 10", or maybe even a L5 8". I really think he needs to get out to a nice audio store and hear what a NICE 10" with a good amp will sound like. If you put say 300 watts RMS to a L5 8", quite frankly it will blow your mind. You'll think that you're listen to a normal 12". All, in all he has to do what he wants. When I do my system I'll be putting the money where it's most important to me, the highs. This is why I'm getting Focals.

Oh by the way, you get a big for not liking rap.

Re: Newbie. Want to put in deck and subs and amp

Thanks lol. Its not even music . Decided dual 12" Kicker 600 watt subs. Kicker. KX800.2 Amp, 2 guage wiring, 1 or bigger farad cap, 150 watt amp breaker and not sure on the choice of my reciever yet. My choice of reciever will most likely depend on how much money I have left over and will choose the best/my favorite of the ones I can afford. Thanks. Will upgrade rest of stereo in time .
