The Fiero is dead. The markets have changed. Get over it.

I can't imagine GM even thining about "alienating Fiero owners"... just doesn't make any sense. They haven't had a car in that market since 1988... I don't see how bringing out Solstice would change anything relating to Fiero or it's owners.

The mr2/spyder has never had high sales figures. The current car costs 25k, only 138 hp, convertible only, no automatic (this was 50% of fiero sales) and has a cramped interior.

Burmite-at least you are consistent. Go tell this to the 8000 members at Pennocks fiero forum. By the way-the camaro is also dead.

A car company should be careful to follow its heritage when bringing out new models-this is why mid-engine is the way to go. This car still holds the one year sales record for 2 seaters-even though the 84's were mediocre cars.

As far as alienating customers-look what GM just brought back after 30 years, so 15 years isnt that long ago.

The 2 seater market is very similar today to that of the early 80's, with many new cars hitting the market the last 5-6 years including: Crossfire, Boxster, Z3/4, S2000,MRS, XLR, Ford GT and others. Its obvious the manufacturers expect this segment to grow.

I wouldnt, but I see why it appeals to people. Its a pretty cool little car, I just like larger ones (cars, not females )

Which only tells me that a supercharged mid-engined Pontiac would cost even more than $25k. If a fun 2-seater on a budget is Pontiac's goal, the Solstice layout is the only way to go.

Yes, but it's only been gone 2 years... and is rumored ot be back in only a few more... a bit different than being gone a lifetime for new drivers...

I would generally agree... but this is Solstice not Fiero... about the only thing they have in common is that they both are two-seaters. That hardly links Solstice to Fiero.

And, rightfully so, I don't think they are overwhelmingly worried about alienating past buyer of a car they haven't built for 30 years... Thunderbird went this route, and I don't think it has worked out very well.

Look sthat way.... but who is saying that Solstice will fail? Most people seem to be pretty gung ho about it... I am not one of them, but you can't deny the enthusiasm for this car.

If Pontiac makes the Solstice fastback coupe, it's supercharged 4 could keep up with the Neon SRT-4, and it all came in well under 25 grand, then it would be the 3rd new car on my list, right between GTO & the new Mustang.

Is the solstice Mid engined or is the engine in the front?

In this picture the engine is in the front but everyone keeps comparing this to the MR2 and Fiero

Solstice is definitely front engine, RWD. No one was comparing Solstice to Fiero, the argument was just being made that Pontiac should've done a Fiero-type layout for this car.
