So you want to save the Camaro name???

Don't go away sulking because people are skeptical. If it makes you feel better the latest rumor is that there will be an announcement this fall about a new Camaro reportedly as you said: based on the '69.
But I can't say my source is any more credible than yours. Talk is cheap. Rumors are a dime a dozen and we haven't seen anything concrete yet.
my letter
here is my letter. Sorry for any errors, i am only 15. I do not own a camaro but my father did. Tell me what you think
To whom it may concern,
Perhaps my opinion will not be regarded, but I feel that I owe it to your company and my car to express it. For generations my family has purchased your products. Every General Motors vehicle we have owned has been a true pleasure to drive. My Camaro is no exception. My Camaro has served me with years of driving enjoyment, something I have yet to find in another car. After my car’s time comes to an end, I will instinctively look towards General Motors to provide me with a worthy replacement. This is because General Motors vehicles have never ceased to satisfy all of my needs and wants. Again, my Camaro is no exception. When the decision was made to drop this wonderful piece of American engineering, your company removed more than just a car from its line. General Motors removed piece of heritage from the American society. Because of this, many loyal General Motors patrons such as myself are forced to look elsewhere. So when the time comes to replace my car, I know that I will never find a vehicle capable of paralleling the passion I find in my Camaro. Competition between General Motors and Ford motor group has always been extensive, and it is quite evident that General Motors out-powers and out-performs like no other. Many enthusiasts will be forced to turn towards Ford to fulfill their pony car needs. Perhaps Ford should be given props for maintaining their history, and perhaps Ford is now the superior company. I wouldn’t imagine myself driving a mustang, but General Motors hasn’t left me any options. Although the GTO and Corvette are beautiful vehicles, not all can afford such luxury. Your Camaro was truly the best balance between performance and affordability. So when my Camaro dies after a long life of love and enjoyment, I hope I will be able to look to General Motors once again for an affordably priced pony car that delivers a truly powerful feeling that only General Motors is capable of crafting. Please bring back the Camaro, the American society should not be deprived of its rightful heritage.
Thank your for your time.

They also reported that Lutz has been removed from his position, whether that's good or bad.

I seriously don't blame anyone for being doubtful...but it was the first time I'd heard anything somewhat solid about the return of the Camaro. I realize that the Zeta platform has supposedly been cancelled, but I'm still hopeful considering what I was told. My buddy actually spoke directly with the guy, who works for ****** [edit - on second thought, I probably shouldn't have leaked the wheel company name]. They were awarded the contract for making the aluminum wheels for the new Camaro.
Regardless, I guess we'll all know in a few months...

In your defense, I will propose to everyone that anything that's scheduled for the 2008 model year, is coming out in 2007 calender year, which starts only 17 months from now. Development on certain components by suppliers can run into the 24 month range or longer.
Finally (again in your defense), Bob lutz stopped spending temporarily on North American RWD programs in order to speed up and do more last minute detail work on the GMT900 trucks. Since he wasn't refering to Zeta, Kappa, Sigma, or the "Y-body" RWDs (already in production, or about to be), and that the spending he was refering to was related to component development (since the resources were diverted to this exact thing on the upcoming trucks) , it doesn't take very much effort to realize at least one vehicle he was refering to and how far along the thing actually was.
All this is public and out in the open, so it's not like it's a deep secret or difficult to recognize.
It's just that no one can disclose confidential information on future GM vehicles.... unless it's Mark Reuss revealing details of GM-NA's upcoming RWD chassis or Bob Lutz talking about the 2008 Solstice coupe.

Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
I sent in mine a few days ago and just now got basically the same response. The woman did write that GM has no plans of briging back the Camaro but they do have something very exciting in the works but she can't reveal it until the public announcement is made. I really need to quit reading this stuff because someone always knows something or someone who says nothing at all ( but gives you that feeling you're right) or they say very little and end it with "no Camaro". I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and keep a deathgrip on my Camaro.
Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
from http://www.gminsidenews.com/futureguide1.htm
Camaro/Chevelle- Chevy has an all new sporty coupe set to debut in 2007 on the Zeta platform. This car is very similar to the 2007 GTO, with the exception of tighter styling. At this point the assumption is that this car will be the all new Camaro. There is however an outside rumor that this car may be hastily redesigned and given a more appropriate name such as Chevelle. Then GM would design a Camaro on an all new midsized RWD platform loosely based on a lengthened Kappa platform. This platform (rumored to be called "Beta") was first previewed in the Holden Torana TT36 concept shown at the 04 Sydney International Auto Show. This would slightly delay a Camaro to possibly 2008. Either way, we will keep you updated!
Riviera- Buick is considering building the Velite concept car. If built, the car would be the mechanical twin of the new Zeta GTO and Chevy Performance Coupe (Camaro/Chevelle) and named Riviera. The Riviera would come in both coupe and convertible versions. Expect the Riviera to get a DOHC V6 in place of it's platform mates OHV engines.
