So you want to save the Camaro name???
Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
Well, now that I have 2 posts maybe I'll be considered more "reputable"
I normally hang out @ www.thirdgen.org (same handle, more than 1 post...ha), but I saw that this was apparently the "hub" for discussions about the return of the Camaro.
I seriously don't blame anyone for being doubtful...but it was the first time I'd heard anything somewhat solid about the return of the Camaro. I realize that the Zeta platform has supposedly been cancelled, but I'm still hopeful considering what I was told. My buddy actually spoke directly with the guy, who works for ****** [edit - on second thought, I probably shouldn't have leaked the wheel company name]. They were awarded the contract for making the aluminum wheels for the new Camaro.
Regardless, I guess we'll all know in a few months...

Anything specific, like sizes, etc.?
Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
That was the first thing I asked, too...he said they were either 17" or 18", he couldn't recall the specific size and width. I'll try to squeeze him for some more info...pretty exciting.
Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
I don't want to bash someone, well maybe Buickman, but, man, you gotta understand that we are skeptical about a guy with 3rd or 4th hand "info" that posts that as his 1st post, and ressurects an onld thread to do so.
Along those lines, really 17 or 18? Oh man, that would be sweet. I mean, shoot I was figuring that they were going to be 15 or maybe 22.
I can give out as specific information as 17 or 18 inch wheels.
It's got 2 doors. It will have 4 or 5 seats, probably 4. It will have a spoiler. It will have a manual transmission available. It will have headlights and taillights. They will be made of plastic.
Not trying to bash man, its just that I am skeptical. Sorry. Thanks for posting info though, especially if it turns out to be true, or if you can get more.

Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
I believe him because he's right. Autoextremist hit the money shot (in reference to a different thread that was recently posted in the forum), per say, in that the concept Camaro will be at the North American International Autoshow, January 2006. It's very likely the company that was awarded the contract was making parts for this concept. Likewise, he has the year dead on. An interesting side note, the Vice President of Chevrolet owns a 1969 Camaro.
I just returned from Camaro Superfest here in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and there were many people "in the know" with very good reputations. I can tell you that three of them that I talked to were so excited I know that if they could've they would've shouted over the PA to let everyone know.

General Z - it's one thing to be skeptical....but you're just being plain obnoxious. The reason I made the comment about wheel size is because that happened to be the specific car component that was being discussed. Remember, this info came from a wheel manufacturer. Personally, I was pretty stoked at the thought of 18s coming stock on the new Camaro.
I wanted to post on this board to see if anyone else had obtained similar information...sounds like I'm not the only one...

He believes it may even come out as a late 2006 model year release.
I've heard rumors before about the Camaro's return, but nothing this solid. Of course, this is still "hearsay", but I consider it a very reliable source.
Now I've just got to figure out how I can afford one...

Fine, Dwarf Killer, how about if one of the top designers at Chevy's performance branch said it? I'm sorry that I didn't have a voice recorder, but he pretty much summarized the key phrases in Bulldog92's post (pre-production Camaro styled after the 69; the concept will be at the NAIAS 2006 in Detroit)
Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
I was under the false impression that this message board existed as a platform for people who own Camaros to communicate and discuss different topics. I'll go out on a limb and say that most of this discussion is not derived from information obtained directly from a personal conversation with upper management at GM (or the apparently more-trusted source: car magazines
). My apologies for trying to share what I believed to be some very interesting information on what I thought was a respectable board. Later, guys.

Re: So you want to save the Camaro name???
In time you'll get more used to it, Bulldog92. The biggest thing is that everyone's hopes have been falsely raised so many times by people claiming to know someone in GM or a long distant relative saying this, or a friend of a friend saying that; now everyone is skeptical as hell when it comes to claims (especially ones whose news were as good as yours!). I'm surprised, though, that two of the figures that seem like they're in-the-know on this specific 5th gen section haven't once commented about the news (aside to ask the size) which leads me to believe you might've touched on something they can't elaborate on without spilling the beans.
All I know is what I heard from people working for Chevy at Camaro Superfest this weekend, and it directly correlates with what your tidbit said, Bulldog92, so you have my faith. And you know what? When it becomes public knowledge, atleast you can sit back and say "I told you so!"
