Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?
Re: Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?
Maybe some of the insiders can verify this, but I've heard rumors from other places that there are new roll over standards that are set to be enforced in 2007 or so?
What that most likely will mean is heavier cars.
Now, let's make a decision...lighter or same size (volume wise as per exterior dims) than Mustang? You might not be able to have both.

How much smaller than a Mustang can you make a Camaro and still have it be a Camaro and not a Silvia/240SX?
I have a '91 240SX, and it's a MUCH more enjoyable car to drive than any F-body I've driven. All it needs is some POWER (and to not look so damn plain).
If I could reasonably transplant my Z28's styling and powerplant onto/into my 240SX, I'd do it. That is pretty much what I want any "new Camaro" to be.

Actually, a Silvia/240SX with an LS2 (and appropriate styling) would be PERFECT as far as I'm concerned!

Ya might want to check out LS1Tech's conversions/hybrids section. Might surprise you. I've got a 91 Coupe, btw, and saving for an LS1 as we speak.

To be honest the most fun I've had driving a car in a long time is when I've driven my son's 96 Mustang GT (well it is supercharged). At first I felt the cockpit is too small. (I still do.) However the overall ponycar proportions are about right. If they could fit my 4th gen cockpit inside a SN95 sized coupe, that'd make a decent ponycar IMO. However, I don't want a 240SX sized Camaro. Too small. Too narrow. Too 1990's.

If people complain about an F-body's interior being too small, then they will have a fit if they were in an old 240sx sized interior. I'm too big for a car that small (6'4).

It has all that "sporty" {
} weight, heft and mass some of you crave in a "sporty" car. I betcha even the visibility totally sux.......mmmmmmmmmmm. What could be better?
Looks fun to drive, huh?
Ok, sarcasm over. I've driven 240SX's and I agree with Dan. They're lots of fun to drive, you can actually have awareness of where your car is around you, and if a package that size had a V8...what an awesome Camaro it would be. And BTW, I fit just fine.

Re: Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?
Well we might as well rebadge this as a Camaro:
Camaro Platform Mate
Camaro should not be the size of a 240SX. It should have "presence," which you can't have with a pocket rocket.

Because, I get the impression that you feel that a car like this has no "presence".

Re: Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?
BTW, the 550 Maranello is a mere one inch longer than the 240SX.
Do they both NOT have "presence", or does one have it and one doesn't have it? And if one these cars does have "presence" - what is the size criterion for this "presence"?
Someone please explain.
