I like that. ALOT!!!!!!!!!!! There are so many cool designs floating around, but that is the first one I have seen that looks evolutionary from the 3rd gen. Only quibble would be, raise the green house slightly, I don't like the gun slit windows.

You got it!! An evoulution of the 1st gen is what will appeal to the largest crowd. I'm whining along with all my friends too. The 70 looked disconnected from the 69..lets pick up where the 69 left off and go from there.

As a buyer of 5 new F bodies over the last 30 years, I'll say this: give me a Camaro that is a 30 year evolution of the 1 gen, and I'll buy it in a heartbeat. But, I have no use for anything that even remotely looks like a 4th gen. Get any more "revolutionary", and you'll have to give them away.

Jason needs to understand that those of us that lived the 1st gen have the pockets to buy 10 new Camaros, on the spot, write a check, and not blink doing it. We are the market GM needs. His gen will have their day, but its not now.

If GM wants the Camaro to be a success, they must reestablish their roots.

That's interesting. A 30 year (actually 40, but I see your point), evolution of a 1st gen. Something to think about here. Not merely forcing 40 year old styling cues on a new car....but imagining what a 3 box Camaro configuration would look like...4 or 5 generations later. Sort of how C2 relates to C6. Or a '69 911 compares to the upcoming one.

Anyway, I just want a really, really beautiful car. When I see it for the first time...I want to feel the same butterflies that I felt the first time I saw a 1st gen, 2nd gen or 3rd gen.

The new Mustang is very nice, but if Camaro goes no further than that level of execution....I'll be disappointed.

Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"

I agree on that. I would like to see the evolution of Camaro, but Camaro has been so many things. Just going from 69 to 70 looks like 2 different companies, same could be said from 92 to 93. Where do you try to evolve from?
So where do you take design from? No generation looks like an evolution from the last, unlike Corvette and 911. Only thing that is the same ended in 92, with the 3 box design. 4th gen looks...well....deffinatly not 3 box.
I think that maybe we need to get back to the 3 box design, but I think that looking outside at European and American offerings will give us a great looking Camaro. Look at Vette. While keeping to its Vette roots and still looking much like a Corvette, it adds more European flare IMO.

I don't think I put it exactly that way, but you nailed the "heritage" theme.

And it wasn't just the Martian who said it either.

Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"

I know that most discussion in this thread concerns the EXTERIOR of the car, but I'd like to say something of the interior:

I'd really like a return of the "Cliff-Style" dash pad that the 3rd-gens had. I loved that dash, especially in the '91 Z28 I used to have (which had the updated dash that the '91 and '92 had).

It provided nice shade for the gauges and controls, and gave an almost sinister, powerful appearance to the dash.

Edit:
Make no mistake, I'm not calling for a return of the 3rd-gen dash 100% or even mostly as it was, just the overhanging cliff-like portion.

Agreed, me too. I'd like to see them go back to the style before 90-92 with the multiple round gauges, like 1st-2nd Gen's, but it's more like 1sts. (tach right, speedometer left also) Add a cool shift ****, 3-spoke wheel, and nicely designed seats and console. I say make everything aggressive and distinctive, not plain or generic. Learn from the previous Gens!

Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"

I'm still hoping for an evolutionary look from the last 4th gens.. Longer wheelbase, chop off some overhang, and still make it aggressive.

Just like I how I don't like the new Mustang's look, I don't want a car that follows the Mustang in design either.

and make it easier to work on! (just did headers and plugs).....

Of course I bought the one I have fully knowing that it's built like a van - minus the access cover on the inside.

I think we should start a waiting list, just tell me where to sign.

Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"

i'm new up here, but i just want to add my two cents. i've seen it said before that gm has to design a car that will appeal to everyone! meaning that even a secretary that can't tell the difference between a honda and a mitsubishi will want to buy it. i think the idea of a heritage camaro sounds great. it's exactly what gm needs to do. they need to one up mustang in the design. mustang went for the not to subtle "inspired" look for the 05. gm needs to say "lets make it look like a camro, but not any of the ones we've already done." i think kris horton's concept did a great job of that. it looks like a camaro. thats it. it has riminders of what camaro used to be without looking like a cheap knock-off, IMO. the 05 stang to me looks like a 65. if you put the vents on the side rear windows, it looks like a 66. the new camaro needs to remind all us diehard f-body fans that it is a camaro. it just needs to be an inexpensive, powerful, well balanced car.
i bought my 96 because of what it could do, the looks grew on me. i'm sure no matter what the gen 5 looks like, the aftermarket will have a ton of stuff we can put on them to "personalize" the looks of the ones we buy. but you have to remember the secretaries, business men, and hell even the soccer moms whose kids are off to college and don't need their yukon or suburban any more. they will be buying these cars too, just like they are now with the mustangs. all i hope to see are alot of 05 and up mustangs sitting at chevy dealers when the new camaros roll out.
