Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"
Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"
From what I've heard from a few chevy designers that I talked to, it's modelled after the 1969 Camaro. My biggest question, though, is just how much of the 1969 Camaro is in the 5th gen...well, only a few people on here probably know and won't share lol
Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"
I realize everything that guion said, so I'm not working under the theory that the car depicted IS the new Camaro.
However, if the amount of retro in that car is symbolic of the new Camaro, IMO, I cannot imagine buying one. I can see my father buying one, but me??? Hell no. I hope GM can go sporty and aggressive without making it scream '69 Camaro. I remember guion's words about "If you like a '69 Camaro, you'll love the new one," and My Favorite Martians words years back about "heritage cues, but NOT retro." I like a '69 Camaro, but feel no compelling need to own one. This car looks like even more of a retro ripoff than the Mustang. I agree with someone above...the sides are nice, but the front and the rear are awful. The only way this rendering could be more retro is to get rid of the RS-like front end and put in 2 big ol' round headlamps....ARGH.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can see myself in a new Eclipse over this car. Where did my aggressive, svelte 2+2 hatchback go? I understand the packaging of the old car was awful, but that does NOT mean we need a completely upright coupe in its place. Space efficiency has come a long way...add interior space and an eaiser entry and exit to the old car, and you've come a long way.
Sorry for the rant, but if the new car looks anywhere near that retro, I will be purchasing either my father's '02 Formula or an IROC. Because IMO, that car may drive worlds better, but an '89 IROC will look more modern in my driveway. I'm speechless...
Awfully long rant to be speechless, eh? I know that isn't the actual car, but if that's the direction Chevy is going, I'm very, very sad...

Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"
You know, truthfully... I don't like every generation Camaro. With that said, even if I don't like the 5th gen (highly doubtful) I'd be thankful they're even bringing it back, even if the styling cues aren't to my taste.
Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"
i sure hope the new camaro dont look like that. the car was nasty lookin and makes me sick im getting a new mustang now.j/k but that car is ugly and i cant say that i like it cuz i dont.anyone else feel the same way???
Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"
Whats with all this "retro" hate??? Those drawings don't look that great, but if the new camaro came back inspired by older camaros, like the 05 mustang, I would be pretty damn happy. Personally I think the earlier generations had the best styling out of all the years, plus if it has an LS2 and a 6 speed, god damn, what more could you ask for???

Not raining on Ford's parade, but lets be honest...they hadn't put out an all new Mustang since BEFORE I WAS BORN. I took my own poll of every person I had contact with who owns an F body today...totaling 7. 6 dislike the look of that car for being too retro...1 liked it. The one who did was my 50 year old father...the other 6 were ALL under the age of 30, 4 of which bought their F bodies brand new. Un-scientific? Absolutely. But who is Chevy trying to cater to? 50 year olds or 25 year olds? Who will buy MORE CAMAROS in their lifetime, my father or me???
The retro bashing comes from the simple theory that its not very creative, not very modern, and not even that stylish IMO. Look at the new Eclipse, then look at that blunt nosed box, and tell me which is sportier looking.

Although I don't particularily like any of those drawing posted in that mag of the F5........I have seen some "retro" concepts I would jump over.....
Chris Horton's comes to mind.
