Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"

How can you say that about retro, I give you that drawing does look ugly but your saying you wouldnt buy one if it ended up looking like Hortons. I think its one of the sexiest cars. Also, I was looking at it the other day when and 3 older women, parents friends saw me and immediatly loved the car not even knowing it was a Camaro, one wanted to buy one on the spot and she had only seen it for 2 seconds.

Notice my username isn't "Chevelle64," or some derivation of that I know you like older designs. For me, I want new...cutting edge. Heritage is great...retro is bad. What do you follow a retro design up with? A modern one? More retro? Will our 6th gen look like a '70??? I mean really, people...

You and a lot of others are completely wrong about retro being a copy. There is not one vehicle out there that the "retro" label has been tied to that is a copy. The most intense "retro" vehicle on the road right now would have to the mustang. Put it up next to a 60's mustang and you can sure as hell tell them apart. They used bits and pieces but they absolutely DID update the design. For a more expensive example, the Ford GT. That was MEANT to be a copy. Even so, look at them next to each other and there is no mistaking the moderen one. These "retro" cars are the path that designers MAY have taken in the next generation. They are what might have been, not what was.

Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"

I can't think of one person I showed Horton's design to, who's eyes didn't damn near pop out of their head! To me retro is one of those words, I really don't like anymore. Kinda like boyracer, anyone recall ppl using that one on the WS6 Ram Air T/A's. I hate that, they were/are awsome looking cars. In order to get ppl to actually buy them, I don't think they will if they have to sit on the ground again, atleast not in the #'s needed for it to be successfull. I've even had ppl bitch about this with my 2nd gen. Then we'll have a repeat of the 4th gens. Here's a new one, why not wait till we see the Actuall car before we tear it up! I know its alot to ask, and we're all anxious to see it, but Retro is only a word. For my $$$ I would take the Mustang, over the eclipse all day long, but thats just me. I'm Biased against anything not from here. Anyway eclipses have always been ugly, IMO of coarse! Any design retro or not, can be tweaked, just because it might be based on another popular design, does not mean it has to go to the next Camaro body style ie 70. It can be explored in ways the original wasn't. Designers are very creative, and we will see when they redo the Mustang. Bottom line if it looks hot thats it! We are all but sure, it will be based off 1st gens, don't like it, don't buy it thats it. Everything old is new again. Is anyone going to bash phonywood for not having any new ideas, every other picture they put out, is something from the past, and guess what, ppl go out to see them in droves. Not to mention styles coming back, thats how it is, ppl are wearing bell bottoms again for cryin' out loud. Really glad I mist that one BTW! I was a little kid, but it looks just as dum now, as it did then, but still we like to revisit things over and over! The Mustang is retro, and they are selling like hot cakes, in case anyone mist that! Its because they successfully brought an old design back, with some new flavor, and ppl love it, even some who like Camaros have jumped ship. I am not defending those pics as they suck, and don't do it for me. But I'll be damned if I'm going to listen to R&T as far as info on a new Camaro.

You need to turn in your car guy ID card at the door, sir.

People on this forum are very anti-retro. This is also a forum of primarily 4th gen Camaro owners, which was the least popular of all of the Camaro generations. If they made a new Camaro that had heavy ties to the 69, it would sell like mad, and as someone else said, for every guy who says "Retro? NO way! I'll never buy it!" there's 2-3 others who are waving their wallets ready to go.

Look at the new GTO. If they would have gone retro, people wouldn't be bashing the styling like they are now, and it's a good modern interpretation of what the GTO is.

And I completely disagree with you. So? Of course I can tell them apart...but IMO (and the opinion of many others, apparently) it also screams "rip off." Did a '67 Mustang look like a '32 3 window Ford Coupe? Hell no...enough said. I like something forward looking...not backward. That's my taste. Yours is different...so be it. I'm not any more wrong than you are

Not really, but thanks anyway. A '69 Camaro is great, but its not even the one most relevant in the eyes of the general public!!! An '85 IROC was picked most from a line of pictures when people were asked "What says Camaro to you?" The '69 will have been dead for nearly FORTY YEARS when the '08s come out...leave it dead.

I think its interesting no one ever challenges the point I made that younger people, on average, tend to dislike retro more than older people. So I pose this question...

Is Camaro catering to older or younger generations? How many more Camaros will I buy in my lifetime versus my 50 year old father? I will be 28 when the '08s debut, and will be completely in line financially at that point to buy a new car. Will Camaro be it? I hope so. But if it looks like the R&T rendering, I'll pass.

No other generation ever had to look back to move forward. This one shouldn't, either.

To a true Camaro enthusiast, if you're looking for a new car when the 5th gen comes out, you wouldn't even have to think about it.

You are right about youg people disliking retro. I have said that a thousand times. Below 25 years old it seems have a fit when they hear the word retro. Dont worry, you will grow out of it one day

That's a joke, right? I don't give a damn what name a car has or what kind of history it has, if I don't like how it looks, it's not going to be in my driveway.

I love the 1969 Camaro because its a 1969 Camaro. If you want a new one, they do make replica kit cars now that you can buy and put together yourself. Hell, with enough know-how, you could make your very own Kris Horton 5th gen.

I dont love 1969 Camaros, warmed over with modern details, and passed off as new.
I want a 2008 Camaro.

1969 Camaro
1968 Charger
1969 Fastback Mustang
1970 Hemi Cuda
1970 Chevelle SS

In my opinion if you have an ounce of gasoline running through your veins these cars do something for you. They do for me and I was born in 69.

If GM builds a New Camaro that looks like Hortons rendering I will sell my soul to buy one. I did not buy my 94 Z cause I liked the way it looked, its grown on me but I bought it because of the performance. NEW car that performed like my old musclecars but had better handling, better gas mileage, the body was one color and not rusty you get the point.
Now if I could get the same performance, handling etc of a new car and have it wrapped in a great looking package like Hortons.....Oh dear lord what I would do for that.
Give it classic styling like the 69 Camaro, give us the OPTION of a hot powerplant and performance upgrades and you will sell a buttload of em.
I will be first in line for the old school lookin new car.

Re: Road&Track 2007 Camaro "revealed"

Buy a 1st Gen if you want and upgrade it like new cars are. I want the Camaro to have the looks of Gens before but with new trend setting designs that will make the retro M*stang look even more idiotic and do what Camaros have done 4 times before, make that F*rd look outdated and boring. I too am wondering though, Guion has given hints at the retro thing and RP hinted what if you take that flat front and rake it, but then I hear that he's saying not even close to all-out retro designs that we've seen lately. He's also said before that it won't be all-out retro, but who really knows.

After years of wierd looking way-too round cars, designers are starting to use angular but rounded lines similar to what was used in the first 3 Gens and on many other cars more and more. I want it to be something that will have an aggressive look that makes people say CAMARO and wow at the same time, and NOT because it obviously looks like a 1st Gen.
