In reality, it's an engine with a lot of features like DoD, etc...
Thats some great news! I was just thinking about trading my Z28 in but now I think I'm going to hold onto it and start saving up for a new 2007!

I think that 3 engines would be best, one V6, base V8, and premium V8. It would just make sense to me. I hope the V6 would pump out around 280 hp to keep it competitive with some japanese sedans now a days
Then for the base V8 have around 350 hp, then premium around 400+maybe the exact same engine as the base C6, but it will weigh more so it wont be as fast

I don't know about you guys, but I have a real problem with that. I think Chevy has all the racing history and even if the cars they produce are not as plush or flashy as other GM brands, I feel that the performance variants of the models(SS) should be faster than the other brands. Personnally, I would be kind of insulted if my new Camaro Z28/SS is slower than a GTO. Maybe I shouldn't feel like that, but I do.
I've got a question though - does it really make sense for Chevy to have the quickest cars offered by GM? Chevy is supposed to be the 'value' division. Pontiac - the 'excitement' and 'BMW-like' division. I agree that a big part of the success of Camaro/Corvette over the years has been the 'performance value' aspect... but why shouldn't Pontiac have some fire-breathers?
As for racing history, Pontiac has a heritage just as rich and noteworthy as Chevy from what I can tell. Just because Pontiac is pulling out of NASCAR, there's no reason that won't continue to be the case. There are lots of other venues for Pontiac to excel in.
If the next GTO is quicker than the 5gen SS, it's very unlikely it will be by any significant margin - due to shared (at least similar) configuration, weight and drivetrains. I'd have no problem buying an SS which was a little slower than the GTO, if it had unique advantages like better looks.
I don't know if I would buy a Camaro Z28/SS if the GTO was faster, it kind of seems pointless. Now this is considering that the 2 cars are similar in price. That being said, I don't know if I really want a GTO, I want a Camaro damn-it and I want it to have some bragging rights dealing with performance. It is already second to the Corvette, which is fine, but now it may be third or fourth, who knows. I think the Camaro needs some advantage over the Pontiacs. I would be fine if they were just as fast(like the Firebird) but maybe with an edge in mod-ability or something like that.

What will be the Difference between the two 6.0L engine? compression ratio? or just intake and exhust? Looks to much like how the 4th gen was to me.

Z28 = 5.7L
SS = 5.7L
5th Gen:
Base= V6
Z28 = 6.0L
SS = 6.0L

As far as it being hard to accept quicker Pontiac's, again this is an instance where the 4th gen F-cars have really screwed up peoples perceptions of Chevrolet's rank in the performance hiarchy. Pontiac is the division that kept 300+ horsepower Super Duty engines in F bodys when Z28s were running about 260. It was Pontiac that was running Turbos in everything from Sunbirds to Grand Prixs to Trans Ams (and even Gran Ams!)in the late 80s, It was the Firebird Trans Ams that ran higher top speeds than Camaro Z28s all the way up to at least the 1998 (look it up!) despite having the same engines since 1982.
In case you've missed it, Grand Prix GTPs have been flattening Luminas Monte Carlos & Impalas for a decade. Grand Ams are sportier than Malibus (and marginally quicker). Even in the dark days of 1974, Pontiac was producing way more performance models then Chevy: Ventura GTO, Trans Am (400 & 455HD versions), Formula (in 350, 400, & 455 cubic inches) vs Chevy's Corvette (it's 454 put out less power than the T/A's 455) and the Z28 (245 horses if I remember).
I hate to be the one to break it to ya, but Pontiac as the "Excitement Division", and having quicker cars than Chevrolet isn't something new. The world didn't start with and isn't limited to the 4th gen F-bodies.
There was something in the original Matrix about something like this. Take one pill to step into reality, or take the other to remain in the false world.

Awesome news Guion. That would be a perfect time for a new Camaro, I would be getting out of school and the v6 would be paid off
I also agree though that the Camaro should be just as fast as the GTO.
