OK. Time to break some news here (since it's been a slow week).
Don't be so sure....
.......I feel very certian that we'll get 3 engines....V6, base V8 & premium V8.
Don't forget nearly every model, except Corvette needs to contribute to CAFE standards on a per model line basis...not to mention insurance ratings.
V6's are very important to Camaro sales and model niche.

With DoD a base V8 can meet the CAFE standards.

I'm guessing for cost savings there'd be two versions of each at best...
Chevrolet Camaro.... and Chevrolet Camaro SS
, however I wouldn't expect there to be more than two versions of each model.

More important, why wouldn't the Camaro SS get the LS7 if the GTO did?

You guys are aware that there will most probably be two versions of the GEN IV 6.0, right?
One (Lxx?), at around 350 hp or less..... and one (LS2), at around 400 hp+++.
I wouldn't hold my breathe for an LS7 in a Camaro though.

Why are some of you assuming that the Buick variant will only get a V-6?
Ya know, at one time, Buick was well known for it's V-8s (455 GS & GSX, Wildcat V-8s,etc).
Just because Buick has become synonymous with V-6s in the 80s till now doesn't mean they will stay that way or that they should.
GM is changing. I expect Buick to change also.
With that said, I would bet that this Buick coupe, whatever it's to be called, will have V-8 availibility.

A few philosophies to keep in mind here.
1. Pontiac is going to make quicker cars than Chevrolet.
2. Buick's focus is on V6s. Supercharged or Turbocharged, but still V6s.
3. Chevrolet's focus is on value.
Keeping this in mind, assuming J.D. Powers is correct, one can speculate the GTO will be the quickest of the cars, Buick will have a SC V6. It's also extremely likely Camaro will have both a V6 and a V8, like the 4th gen.
GTO & SS would share costs of the V8 certification.
Regal & Camaro would share the cost of the V6 (Buick springing for the SC packaging & related expenses).
If Camaro is expected to make 50% of the total production, then the costs are distributed evenly based on sales.

Furthermore didn't Pontiac just get out of racing (NASCAR)?
I am a Chevy brand loyalist... however in 1995 I almost went with a WS6 because Chevy didn't build one. I eventually settled for a plain Z/28.... and three months later, Chevy brought out the 1996 Camaro SS!
Just make the top dog Camaro as fast as the top dog GTO.

Least i can breath a sight of relief. If I was wrong on that article I wrote a while back some people would have had my head. FWIW I was told I was was way to close for comfort on the engines I suggested......
I firmly believe Doug is correct...we will have 3 Camaro engines.
1 V6
1 mid-level (yipee!!!!!!!!!!) V8
1 premium V8
I am 99.9% sure of this...I ain't saying WHERE I know it from...but there will be 3 engines...and one will be a V6
